You mean change it to IRRT?

Also does Fated have a good idea?

Yes, change the setting in the BIOS and then press F12 on reboot to see if the external HDD is detected.

A new enclosure is the fall-back option. Or, for more flexibility, you may want to consider an eSATA dock such as this.

Sorry I had to put it off for a bit.

Okay, so I can't find any information on switching to IRRT. All I know is that when I set BIOS to IRRT, Windows 7 wont boot - just like when I tried the same without a registry fix for switching to AHCI.

I have no idea what the right number change would be in the registry to switch to IRRT, let alone if that option is there to begin with.

Maybe try switching it to IRRT, insert your Windows DVD and run startup repair?

But does the BIOS see the external HDD when you switch to eSATA? Only if that answer is yes do you worry about how to do the switch. [I can export some Win 7 64 bit IRRT settings from my registry if you need them.]

Hey, you know what's strange. It didn't show up before, but now that I doublecheck it - both ACHI and IRRT detect it (F12) through the eSATA cable, but still doesn't show up after logging in . .

What's interesting is that they label it differently. In AHCI it's labeled eSATA Drive, and in IRRT, it's labeled Hitachi #########(ID) Drive.

I prefer AHCI because I've read somewhere that IRRT slows down computers but I'm not sure.

So, I'm still not sure what to do to actually access it once logged in :(

That's progress if the BIOS is seeing the external HDD.

Does (i) Control Panel and (ii) Windows Disk Management show anything?

Do you mean the Control Panel should show a item labeled Hitachi Drive or something?

I'm not sure what Windows Disk Management is sorry, can you please explain?
