Yep, running anything less than native on an LCD will look bad

So then I guess I have no choice but to go for an m4500?

Shame because I like the upgraded features for the 4600 / usb 3 etc :(

You're probably best off getting the W520, or the upcoming HP EliteBook 8560w. Normally I recommend Dell Business notebooks a lot, but to get a 1600x900 screen I think it'd be best to go with a different brand than get a previous-generation laptop. However, the M4500's 1600x900 screen is brighter than the W520's I believe.

The Thinkpad looks good. But then again I maybe should just get the M6600, it's got HD+ and it's only about 1/3 heavier (used 98% at a desk anyway)

If you get the M6600 you might actually be better going with the FHD. The DPI will be lower than FHD on the M4600 (closer to the DPI of HD+ in 15.6" than FHD in 15.6"), and you get more space for the increased screen size compared to HD+ in 15.6"

Appreciate your advice. So the FHD on 6600 would have larger native font sizes (approx what %) compared to a HD+ on 15"?

Commissioner Anthony: Go to the Engadget article and click the "SOURCE Dell [PDF]" link. I won't link or post it on the forum because I don't know if it violates the rules.

no they wouldn't be larger. They'd be a bit smaller, but not as small as FHD in 15"

    [email protected]" = 106 ppi
    [email protected]" = 127 ppi
    [email protected]" = 118 ppi
    [email protected] = 141 ppi

1820x1080 in 17.3" gives you a bit higher pixel density than 1600x900 in 15.6", but if you want you can go to an Apple store and check out the 13" 1400x900 Macbook Air, the 15" Macbook Pro with the hi-res (usually matte) 1680x1050 screen, and the 17" Macbook Pro w/ 1920x1200. All of these laptops have only slightly higher pixel density than 1920x1080 in 17.3", so if you like the text sizes then [email protected]" might be the better option. Otherwise, go for 1600x900 in 15.6" or 17.3"
