No... Most FIPS certified readers are the square stamp sized finger "pad" reader so a higher DPI fingerprint image template can be read/compared. The non FIPS device is typically a small bar shaped swipe reader that can be just as reliable in real world use as the FIPS reader even though the image template resolution may not be as high (or fast to process). Yes, they use the same software and achieve the same goal. Again, it just comes to down to hardware resolution/accuracy.

    Hi Scott_RC-TEK,

I have 2 questions about the M4600 and hopefully you and assist on these:-

    1) For the 9 cells battery on M4600, how the extrusion is like? I can't see the battery in photo, but it seems not located in the front like m4400/4500.

    2) for the graphic card option, it is MXM module, so can any other standard MXM card be placed into the laptop as long as the TDP is within the range?
Does the bios need to support/recognize it natively?

    Thank you.

Havoctex previously stated that all batteries fit cleanly into the base, I took that to mean on both the m4600 and m6600, but I guess he meant only for the m6600? Would be nice to know if the 9 cell sticks out at all or otherwise lifts up the laptop (like on the XPS17) on either model.

I just put an order on M4600. However the sales personis not able to put both the mSATA SSD and WWAN together.
He said the system will not accept that configuration because of slot availability, so only 1 ittem can be selected. Is that the case??

@wookwook. about the battery, I asked the sales person and the reply is extruded out like earlier version for 9 cells.

Yes, that's commonly the case and not just with Dell. The mSATA SSD mini-card and the WWAN mini-card usually ocupy the same space, so you can't have both.

If you've got to have a built-in WWAN and you also need a second drive in the M4600, you can consider putting the second drive in the modular bay instead of DVD. See the following thread:

Sorry but your "reliable source" at Dell is not fully up to speed. :) Here are the real true answers.

    1. Scott is right on this, No and No on 12.5mm drives
    2. 750GB is the largest HDD capacity that we have currently qualified. As larger sizes come out we will get the qualified also.
    3. AMD battery performance should be real close to the Optimus OFF times on NV.
    4. The 128GB MiniCard SSD is the same vendor we used last gen on the 64GB minicard.
    5. Dell does not officially support, or sell, an optical drive caddy for these systems. The use of them is not guaranteed nor would they be covered under warr if something happened to your system.
    6. Ok, let me set this straight for good, BOTH batteries, the 6-cell AND the 9-cell, do NOT stick out of the system. They are both within the system. Hope that closes this once and for all. :)
    7. We only sell the full featured BluRay read/write drives on the M4600/M6600. We do NOT sell the BluRay combo drives.
    8. Scott is right on this one.

    Hope this helps.

All batteries on both systems fit within the system.

    1. They are within the system.
    2. No they can not.

Due to limited internal slots on the M4600, the SSD minicard and WWAN module share the same slot.
