Hi I have another question about the m6600. I notice on dell's site you can opt for an msata 128gb ssd. Was wondering what kind of speed you'd get on that compared to a good sata 6.0gb ssd like the samsung 830 series? Thanks!

I really don't see the need for them to send replacement heat sinks. The cooling fins can get dusty, but its not like the heat pipes and metal is going to fail. The issue is how well the heat sinks are installed.

Dell sends thermal compound to repair shops to have it stocked. When replacement parts are sent that will require the CPU or GPU to be removed, they usually send replacement thermal pads or compound with the part. If the tech is scraping paste, they screwed up by not bringing everything with them. Stop them. Call their company and raise hell. The tech will either be responsible and prepared the next time they go out, or management will realize they shouldn't be a tech.

It should not be a big deal for a professional to clean the heat sink, apply the replacement thermal pad or thermal compound, and reinstall the heat sink correctly.

Well, I guess that is one of the reasons. However, My problem goes beyond just that, I will have driver crash whenever I start a graphic benchmark or some thing like that. You should not worry if you are not experiencing anything other than that.

Confirmed the antennas (2-cables) for the WWAN card comes preinstalled, even if I didn't order the WWAN.

Just had a close calll when it booted up with "Invalid Partition Table". Turns out it's the SSD lost contact even with 4 screws holding it down.

You have a good point there. The scenario will be different if the machine is 2 years old. Better to get a new heatsink set. :D Wear and tear from the may not be as optimum as year 1.

I have the Dell 5550+ HSPA which does 21mbs in mine. Ordered from dell at factory and works a treat.

    @Sargent75

ok - my M6600 is going back to dell :( Sadly I decided I want the 3 year accidental damage included (just in case!) and they won't sell it to me because I have taken delivery of the machine....

Ok I thought, I'll just speak to the supervisor explain that I'm still 7days of delivery and that I could just cancel and send the whole order back and make a clean order from scratch - meaning they then have to sell it on the Outlet - which is a pain for me, a pain for them and just generally daft.

No joy - thats what I have to do apparently. GG Dell. Idiots.

ok rant over, now that I am ordering it again I have the benifit of having seen/used the machine. This time I will be ordering the mSATA drive and I'm still tempted to get the FHD Touchscreen....so....please can you tell me about it as much as you can, specificly:

    1) *How* glossy is it? I know it is glossy but on a 1-10 rating with 1 being Matt and 10 being a Mirror - could you rate it pls :)

    2) Does the Pen have a slot or do you just carry it around (and inevitably lose it)?

    3) I understand it is 4 point touch, I *assume* this is finger touch and not requiring the pen... I know its a daft question but better to ask the obvious :)

    4) If honest the FHD screen is a little bland on the colour front - what make/model screen is the touchscreen?

    5) I assume Optimus still works? I know it doesn't on the IPS screen....

    Cheers pal

Adding the accidental damage protection is just changing their internal service records/database. don't have to cancel the order. Just escalate the matter if the account manager can't handle it.

It's been almost two years now, the same project manager handles most of my complains. So far so good.

On what happened to the invalid partition table or the SSD not detected. it's probably because how the unit is placed in the backpack. If it breaks even in this situation, I hope it's still considered an accidental damage.

    1. In my opinion t's acceptable for indoors. As long as the lights don't have hot-spots glare like a spot-light. the screen is quite bright. I think about 300nit.

    2. Nope there's no Pen-slot and it uses a AAAA energizer battery. It's been kept at drawer since day-1 ! As you can use the stylus that they have for ipad that emulates the finger. For technical drawings, it's not that ideal. A bamboo or wacom is better. Can't do precision adjustments with the LCD angles. Mine is a WUR, so i can't complain. I choose the FHD touch-screen as I hardly use it outdoor. waiting for the 2nd gen dell ultrabook probably by Dec.

    3. I hardly used the touch-screen as I find it not very accurate. You will get finger prints all over. Gets even worse with glare + fingerprints.

    4. Only found out from this thread, there are AUO v5 (my unit & thread commented AUO to be the best), LG, Philips etc. The controller or the drivers are N-Trig.

    5. Yes, optimus works with the FHD touchscreen as it's only a 6-bit panel. Comes bundled with the PremierColor Utility. I find it odd my profile color saves just keeps disappearing. Haven't got the time to dig around on what's the problem.

I notice there is no num rating on the glossy ness of the screen

plus do you experience a cursor jitter or wobble when using the stylus If you could open try scrolling slowly on the right side of an internet window and see if the page jumps around or hold the pen still near the edge or even near the center tha would be great

I have a wacom cintiq and am very disappointed with the inaccuracy because of cursor wobble this is very prevalent in many models and wacom has no fix for this issue for the past 5 plus years or more

They claim its because of electrical interference so do you know exactly how the dell stylus communicates with the comp is it a certain frequency because the wacom pen has no battery so thats different and I have been very interested in the m6600 touch but after this wacom fiasco I have reservations about weather it will work for me plus I am guessin you dont use the stylus much but if someone who uses it often could chime in i was wondering if persistent stylus use will cause scratches also common on some wacom models

I would not recommend an overpriced wacom unless you are an artist in need of tilt and pressure sensitivity without extreme accuracy and you live in a vacuum or have a tin foil frog suit

The cursor is on crack side note the dell touch is AUO
