so we took delivery of an m6600 (against my recommendation) today and it has a noticeable amount of keyboard flex, the chassis has a few spots that stick out (like the palmrest and base just aren't quite fitted together right) and the ac adapter jack has quite a bit of play, also just noticed that the right side of the screen bezel is loose

That doesn't follow the overall positive rep of the M6600. Is it factory new or refurbished? Have any pics?

brand new system made to order and no pics but looking at it i'm really not impressed with the build quality at all

to me its kind rough around the edges literally there there are gaps in the casing obviously nothing huge but noticeable

i'm more disappointed that i didn't get to spec this machine and the guy who ordered it got a 1600x900 screen ....gag....barf......good thing this system is not for me

it booted up fast and shut down fast for a regular hd system and everything seems to work

didn't get much done today because we are overloading our T1 (hopefully getting fiber soon) and didn't have very good internet access

i really didn't want to get these systems from dell but we get a better deal i guess hopefully the other system that just came in today is in better condition i spec'd it a little better didn't get to open it up yet

hopefully tomorrow everything will cooperate and we can see how good the system is despite its appearance

I had the same problem with the right side of the screen bezel too. I got a replacement sent out, the bezel problem was gone but was missing tiny bit of paint on the inside bottom edge of it. They sent a 2nd replacement out. That machine had the bezel problem again, so I decided to just keep the 1st replacement. I got $200 back for my troubles. :)

HoHo thanks for the pics. I am an engineer myself so when he turned up and I had bubble wrap taped over the screen and an anti-static mat on the table AND your pics he was trembling a bit.¦]
Anyway the socket had been fitted upside down, so that irradicated that problem although interestingly the power plug does move about 2-3mm even before it was fitted as there are four small springs in the socket retainer that centralise the plug thus allowing some movement.
As to the dip between the speakers, I will whip the cover off and double check that lead as I watched the Dell guy refit it and noticed that when you pull down the centre top deck casing screw it pulls it down too far. I could overcome the problem by putting a small fibre washer between it. But if the lead you mention is proud, as you say it could cause the problem as if it is high at that point it would effectively warp down the centre. Thanks very much.
    regards
