tomcom thanks for all the info i think i will be picking one of these up soon, is the chassis colour more gold or more black? in some pictures it looks really gold in colour and others more gun metal grey... would you say the screen is good enough for graphic design? just a couple more pics would be awesome even from your mobile, cheers though for all the info, it really helps.

Chassis is grey for me there is no hint of gold.

Normal screen is absolutely fine for graphics design, you miss that over contrasty feel of the RGBLED screen if you've used one. Certainly not a poor display by any means.

Pics will come soon, I'm working on a web project with a deadline of tomorrow so may be able to do some shots this evening.

Thanks for the picks....The 17" doesn't look as big as I expected. What are your impressions on the size of the chasis? Is it not a giant hunk? I was planning on getting the 4600, but those picks have me wondering.

Nice....can you think of any reason a person with an m6500 with USB 3.0 would want one? Curious.

    thanks for the pix!

It's a full inch wider than a MBP 17", 1/3 inch taller and the depth is about the same.

It's a huge laptop. There's just not much to gauge it against in those photos.

Not really. My M6500 died which is why i went through the whole currently available sandy bridge laptops.

Pros of the M6600 over M6500
    The M6600 feels slightly quicker.
    More Ports (HDMI)
    Cheaper
    Slightly more battery life
    GPU is much stronger

    Debatable differences
Matt Screen has less glare but makes the laptop on the whole look cheaper with mediocre bezel.
Multitouch on the ALP's pad is better.

    Maybe disadvantages over M6500
16:9 makes it a wide laptop
No IPS / RGB-LED screen on Dell UK
Underneath runs warmer than the M6500
M6500 felt a little better built.
Keyboard on the M6500 was a lot better.
Sound on the M6500 had more midrange, M6600 is quite tinny.
M6500 had the ability to use throttlestop on the extreme processor which would make it outperform the Sandy Bridge M6600

Bottom line if you are happy with the M6500 there is not a huge reason to upgrade.
If battery life is a reason for you then get the OPTIMUS supported cards and there will be a good reason to upgrade.
