The i5 is limited to a 1333MHz max memory clock so getting 1600MHz will do no good since it will just be clocked back down to the 1333MHz.

If you or your friend had more time, I would call up Dell and remind them if the system was sold as manufacturer “certified refurbished”, that does not mean "scratch/dent", which is a lower level. If you are professional and nice... and the Dell agent is nice in return, they will send you a new LCD back cover assembly to switch out or may even have it repaired by a field tech. The FP swipe sensor is nice to have, but is more of a novelty in my opinion. The FIPS certified full FP reader is much better. In the end, it is personal preference.

After searching I found a quick fix to the booting issues with the Adata SSD. If I have a USB device plugged in, it does not have boot problems at all or sleep problems now. I tried different combinations of rebooting and all were 100% normal. BUT.... It still has issues comming out of hibernate, not a big deal since I don't use hibernate. If anyone is having these same issues, leave a USB jump drive or something usb in and that will fix the problem. It still bothers me though that I have to have a usb device plugged in, and I will probably just get a non sandforce controlled SSD.

Alright, just got back from work and I have a few questions.

So would two sticks of 8gb at 1600 run at 1600?

Also are the hybrid drives any good? There's a momentous xt 750gb on sale for $130...
Or should I stick to the ssd? Need at least 180gb for school, design and os...
Also what is the best hdd for gaming? Strictly have a steam and origin folder on the drive for games?

Also if anyone has seen any good deals please feel free to share, working with $150-$200 as max budget... (if it's out of my budget please feel free to share still)

Yes, your 2720QM will handle DDR3-1066/1333/1600MHz 8GB sticks fine.

The hybrids are OK and well received, but I prefer a good ol' SSD for the OS and apps and a nice proven traditional HDD for data storage. Specifically, a Crucial M4 or Samsung 830 SSD plus a Western Digital Black 500GB 7.2K HDD. WD or Toshiba drives are my favorite.

Lastly, I do have an extra 256GB Crucial M4 SSD with 100% life still left that I will sell for $180 shipped within the USA. These are very stable and fast drives.

I have a 256gb crucial m4 2.5" & 256gb crucial m4 msata in my m6600 and haven't had any issues. You can find them in the $180-$200 range. Both are sata3 but keep in mind the msata slot in the m6600 is sata2.

I have been running 32GB (4x8gb) at 1600mhz without issue. You can also run with only two dimms with the i7 without any problem.

In my opinion a HDD is the biggest bottleneck in the system and money is well spent on a SSD. I always order systems with the cheapest drive option available and replace the drive with one purchased aftermarket. This is much cheaper and allows me to reinstall the old drive if I need to have the machine serviced or want to confirm any issue I may be having is not related to my OS installation. I will say that the machine runs considerably faster with the SSD vs the HDD.

The amount of memory required really depends upon what you use your machine for. I often need to run multiple VM's at once so 32GB is a necessity for me. I would go 64GB if I could :D

Win 7 also uses free memory as a disk cache so you may see some speed improvement depending upon your usage and the speed of your drive.

Hello, I am an owner of a M6600 that I bought one year ago.

Recently, it has started giving me some trouble :

Everytime I do something that uses some RAM : watching multiple youtube videos, playing any videogame) my computer starts to heat up more and more, and then to lag so much I have to turn it off.

I have never had this problem before, so I don't know exactly what to make of it.

I tried cleaning the vents behind the laptop, but nothing changed. Do you have any idea why ?

I'm very happy with my mass storage config (128 GB mSATA with system and apps, plus 2x 750GB 7200 in RAID 0). However, I'd like to reduce writes to my SSD minicard to an absolute minimum; already have all special folders (Documents, Pictures and other Libraries) as well as the swap and TMP files set to my D: drive but the C:\users\... is still bugging me...

I'm planning a complete W7 re-install soon; what environment variable, and at which specific moment, should I change so that the users\... directory is created on my D: (the RAID 0), and not C: (the system mSATA) drive?
