Thanks a lot; actually I wasn't asking about adjusting the DVD drive letter but whether physically present W7 installation DVD is necessary for relocation xml script to execute, when performing the relocation on existing W7 installation (as opposed to fresh install, when the installation W7 DVD is a matter of course :))..

EDIT: reading your posts I realize how little I know about administering Windows. Please tel me: if it;s so easy to make hard links for the Users and ProgramData, why is the procedure you've described necessary at all? Wouldn't the hard links suffice to move C;|Users and C:\ProgramData to D:\?

Please bear it with me :)

It doesn't work that way because the script creates Mount Points. HardLinks are not mount points and are limited by the fact that you can't physically delete those folders or move them. Also, collisions will eventually creep up causing other problems.

Yeah you're going to need a windows media for any relocation tasks.

    EDIT:
Sorry, I have gone back and edited or added minor additions to previous posts to try to clarify for readability.

I'm seriously considering starting a fresh thread about reimaging that would be comprehensive and not clog this thread. I have alot of standard techniques, helpful tips and links, and pitfalls to avoid in a clean layout that some owners might find useful.
Does anyone think this a good idea? I would be able to maintain it weekly and update the lead post with users proven solutions.

A very good idea - SSD don't like writing to, and with today's sizes quickly fill up - so the subject is vital for maintaining optimum configurations with small SSD system drives!

    TIA :)

Anyone have more concrete info on the above?

I'm not in a position to upgrade to M6700 and won't be for a rather long time, but with my main applications benefiting from CUDA acceleration, I would like to breath a new life into my M6600 with the new generation Quadro. K4000M, or maybe even the K5000M?

Of course your needs & usage may be different than mine, but I don't think MLC SSD's are nearly as sensitive as they were in the past & the costs keep coming down. SSDLife reports my 256GB Crucial M4 at 99% health after 5,974 hours of work time with 9+ years of estimated lifetime. If the drive is usable for another 3 years I'll consider it money well spent. This drive has 73GB free space & I use it for my OS, Software, and personal documents. I do have a HDD where I keep all of my business files. The 2.5" & mSata 256GB models are going for $180-$200 usd these days.

Sure - I'm doing multi-camera video editing, so my storage needs to be both large and fast. Hence the 2x 750GB RAID 0 as the drive D:\ for data. At the purchase time, the largest mSATA (miniCard) SSD available was 128GB, and it's nearly full now as my C:\ drive :( You get the picture.

It should work — you might need a new "X-brace" piece of the heatsink, the ones that ship with NVIDIA and AMD systems are slightly different. (Maybe you can use the one from the HP system, not sure how similar they are.)

No BIOS update or other modification necessary.
