    I doubt if it was static. There's not enough energy to make anything burn although the high voltage could possibly zap a component. There's been a few times when I've discharged static onto my computer without causing any problems.

    Yeah, I didn't want to extend more without the OP's consent, but I agree with John Ratsey and also doubt it would be static electricity. I had problems before with static electricity and the maximum I got was a BSOD and a RAM replacement.

    @OP

    I'd at least ask them to make it a WXGA+ screen instead of WXGA on the replacement. I can understand using WXGA on a 14,1" but on a 15,4" it's a huge waste of space and you can even clearly see the pixels.

    Well guys I got my Dell Latitude E6500. The Screen is fairly brighter than the e6400 actually a bit too bright. So far no issues with the notebook at all. Runs cool and quiet

    ^^Congrats! Looking good

    I wish my M4400 had the same finish on the palmrest. My E6400 has the same type as your E6500 but it seems they only switched to that later on. The first batch had a finish which was slicker, no texture. Not exactly glossy but more satin finish....and it shows EVERY single finger on it. The new finish is much, much better.....hmmm...i might actually call Dell for a new palmrest.

    Are you running the latest BIOS? I'm sure my E6400's display is not as bright as it once was and, since LED backlights should not fade with age, I wonder if Dell tweaked the settings in one of the BIOS updates.

    My E6400's palmrest which is approaching 18 months old looks to have the same finish as in the photo above. Therefore it may be a question of a different batch from a different source and not a deliberate change.

    After working with a few of the E6400s and 6500s I love them!

    Wonder if the fan stopped working or something? I almost cooked a laptop last week because of that.
