Does anyone know how long the current Latitude series will be out? I currently own a E4300 and a E6410, I love the styling and feel of both of these Latitudes. The current Latitudes look too much like their consumer grade laptops and not like a professional laptop at all. Actually, I think they look horrible. Not to mention, the E6420 seems much bulkier and heavier than the E6410 I own.....I'm considering going to the Lenovo T420s.....

Dell likes to keep parts compatible over XX generation, so I doubt there will be a refresh until next year at a minimum. I don't think the entire line will get truly refreshed until 2013 when Intel launches Haswell. And I completely agree with you, that is why I am jumping ship to Lenovo.

yep same here, researching and pricing t520's and w520's for a purchase next month

I was faithfully buying latitudes from the outlet right after a new line or processor line came out for years (making sure I wasn't getting anything older than 2 months or so)

but I can't dig this new latitude line at all

    what a mistake.....

Apparently people are buying up the new Latitudes like they are hotcakes. I will only buy last generation Latitudes from Outlet at this point, but looks like all the decent ones are gone. Man I miss my E6410, 16:10, none of this consumer design non-sense.

Could be the result of purchases by the back to school crowd. It will be interesting to see what those sales numbers and the Outlet inventories look like 30-60 days from now.

Even on Dell's on web site, there are reviews that have negative comments about the look of the new Latitude class. I was sitting next to someone on the Acela train yesterday who was using one, and now I dislike them even more. Dell is doing an exchange on my E6410 because they have been unable to fix the problem, which has been going on for over a month, but they claim to not have any E6410's left. I am going to sell it on E-bay and buy another E6410 on ebay.

Lenovo has some great deals on their outlet site right now. They have a T410s, with decent specs, for $825. A new 420 for under $700. I also have a T61p, which is older than any of my Dell's, and the integrity and build quality of that machine is much better than my 8 month old E6410....

    I got a clearance T410s Type 2904-GGU i5-520M, 4 GB, Intel HD GPU, WXGA+, 250 GB 1.8" mSATA for 558 with 2 year left on depot warranty.

Dell probably quoted you no more new E6410, meaning there are only refurbished ones left. If you buy a new laptop they will get you a new laptop replacement, unless you specifically ask for the same model refurbished.

just bought a E6520, still have the work E6400. E6520 has 2720QM but runs much cooler than E6400, but I must say the off-centered keyboard is no good, guess you get what you pay for.

Dell's most likely not going to change the design until Haswell most likely.

If the past is anything to go by Dell uses the same design for 2 generations with minor tweaks (e.g. D620 and D630 chassis wise were almost identical, ditto for E6400 and E6410).

I would not buy an E6420 either. It's way ugly compared to the E6410. Definitely will jump ship to Lenovo if things don't change.
