The color tones are also similar inside, the outside is the same color.

erm...no...the D610 is silver for the entire case, the D620/30 are black inside with a "metalflake" finish, with silver accents around the keyboard. :)

To me the two couldn't be more different looking, even physically.... but its all in the way one looks at things I guess!

If it is built like D series ... then "point" for functionality. E series seems a bit too delicate. Now Elitebooks are best built for me, IF Dell 3rd gen. E-serie are as strong and trusty - then for me personally it would be convincing aspect to upgrade.

Sadly in the battle for income death took:
    - USB 3.0
    - 16:10 screens (can I dream about IPS option, can I :) ?)
    - Synaptics touchpad

Dream machine: tough, with 14,2" large IPS screen with 180 angles and real colors, Synaptic touchpad, SB platform, USB3.0, Sata6Gbps ... what a nice wishful dream.

You might still get IPS option, though it will be 16:9 (similar to the 8540w).

Most importantly, the D620 is much sturdier than the D610. The latter is among the most fragile laptops I have ever come across.

I didn't read all the pages, so excuse me if this was postet before.

I like the new design, looks fresh (but as always with design... a matter of taste).

But I am very disapointed that Dell changed the keyboard layout.

In the old D series it was a good business keyboard with the 6 function keys in the top right corner, as expected. Now they are completely messed up... :-(

pgUp/Dwn is probably the only minor 'improvement' that is acceptable, but the rest?

Completely messed up? There are 6 keys and you admit the 2 page keys down in their new position is an improvement. That leaves 4 keys. The Delete key is in the topmost rightmost corner above the Backspace key... an intuitive location for it. That leaves 3 keys: Home, End, and Insert lined up to the left of Delete... is that really so messed up?

Unfortunately USB 3.0 isn't going to be integrated into the chipset til at least Ivy Bridge.

16:10 finally kicked the bucket with the latest E64x0 reincarnation.

Synaptics would be nice.... Alps is terribad.
