    New Latitudes are coming!

    I believe 5 in all.

The 5420, 5520, E6320, E6420, E6520 are scheduled to be released during the first couple weeks of March, supposedly. With the new sandybridge flaw that is upon us, that date could be backed up. Or maybe they will just use 1st Gen procs.

The 3 I will tell you about will be the 6000 series, just because I could care less about the 5000 series:

E6320: Will be replacing the E4310. 13.3" 1366x768 screen. Will include a mini-HDMI port. Weigh in right around 3.3 pounds with 3 cell battery. 1.17 inches high.

E6420: Will be replacing the E6410. The screen will be changed to a 16:9 ratio (which I'm excited about, I know most people hate this though). I believe 2 resolutions, 1366x768 (HD) and 1600x900 (HD+). It will have an option for a touchscreen that is newly coming available. An added option for a GPS module seems to be available, don't quote me on that as I don't have all the details on that part. This will include a full size HDMI port. Haven't confirmed whether it will have usb 2.0 vs 3.0.

E6520: Will be replacing the E6510. The screen will have a touchscreen option available. HDMI port included. GPS module as an option, again don't quote me on that part. All 3 16:9 resolutions will be available, no change there. Haven't confirmed whether it will have usb 2.0 vs 3.0.

As far as where I saw this information, I have a buddy that works in Round Rock :D

I can't believe that Dell, Toshiba and others still don't offer a higher-res 13.*-inch laptop screen. Sony has had 1600x900 and even 1920x1080 for a couple years, and Apple recently upgraded their Air to 1440x900. (Lenovo also had 1440x900 for a while though no longer does.) I understand that not everyone is going to like high res, but offering them as optional upgrades would be nice.

Do you happen to know what the weight is going to be?

I don't /mind/ the 16:9 aspect ratio in itself, it's just the fact that it usually means lower maximum resolutions (1200 -> 1080). With the E6420, this isn't the case, so I <s>welcome</s> am sortof ok with the change. 16:10 is a lot easier on the eyes than 16:9 though, so I would actually rather they have kept 16:10 and bump the max up to 1680x1050.

I'll still probably like my M4400 better than the E6520.

Because people already complain about paying a premium for light and thin 13.3" notebooks, adding a high resolution screen is adding insult to injury. 1368x768 isn't the best resolution for 13.3", I would have much preferred 1280x800 but it's fine for being a multimedia notebook. But anything larger with 1368x768 is horrible, there are 16" notebooks with 1368x768.

lol have you seen the prices on the 13" Sony notebooks?

I doubt if it will be significantly light (and I don't trust Dell's advertised weights). It might even be heavier if the chassis is made wider (as happened to the E6510) because there is not much scope for reducing the front-to-back size without either completely changing the battery location or reducing the already small touchpad. As I speculated in another thread, it is just about possible to fit the 16:9 display into the E6410's lid (the bezels at each side would be quite narrow) and thus retain the E6410 chassis size. if Dell did this and left the hinges the same then there would be brisk trade in E6410 lids which end up being mounted on the E6420 chassis. However, it is unlikely that Dell would be that obliging.

    oh erm....hello! :wideeyed: :swoon:

I'm interested to see what it looks like in better photos, esp in regards to build quality. I'm also a bit shocked that its still an "E" series...even though we've seen this happen before on the D series.

Looks like the speakers may be at the front. And they may becoming more tank-like.
