Understood... one improved latch and a stiffer lid with that continuous surround seal on the new E6420 may be all it will take to improve on the previous generation.

Regarding that continuous lid seal on the new E6420, if it is rubber, that will be some supportive seal... and perhaps no more screen abrasion on the keyboard.

    New Precisions look SEXY.

Latitudes on the other hand? Ugh, the curved design reminds me of HP's Pavilon line. I'm glad I went with the E6510. Doesn't have SB but I can live with that.

MacBook Pros have a rubber seal and still get the keyboard pressed against it's screen, but the E6420 looks likes its a bit more recessed than the Apple.

I would take a professionally styled notebook, 16:10 screen over a SATA 3 connector. Plus if you have a traditional hard drive, it doesn't even saturate SATA 2...

The continuous bumper combined with the 3D-stiffened lid is what I meant to observe. The E6x20 lid appears to be more clam shell-like with a seal compared to the simple flat sandwiched panel of the previous generations that can be depressed down between its button bumpers.

    Wow, very consumerish.

Though I wonder how these are really going to look with the existing E series accessories. Since the E series accessories were designed with the black angular E6400 in mind, they look pretty black and angular themselves. So how is this pretty metalic and curvy laptop going to look with stark black angular replicators, monitor stands, and power supplies. I don't think we are geting new docks and such ether, as dell typicaly does not change the accessories mid series.

Also are the red and blue options going away? I have seen no mention of them.

But I think the red and blue caused dell a parts stock nightmare. The E4200/E4300/E6400/E6400 were available entirely red or blue. But on the next series you could only get an E6410 or E6510 with a red or black LCD hatch cover. So maybe the trend was already started.

I'm not seeing that as a negative. They are business class top to bottom. They are matte black with a matte silver banding with soft corners and edges... the soft corners will slip smoothly into a sleeve or onto your desktop, the smooth edges will not gouge your wrists, and the silver banding will highlight the ports for easier access in poor lighting and will resist scuffing all around. It's all smart.

I prefer the looks of the older latitudes, but I suppose the new ones don't look too bad. One could get used to them.

What really disappoints me is the lack of USB 3.0. Yes, it's a newer technology and is still got a ways to go before it is integrated into everything. But couldn't Dell have thought of something other than losing an entire e-modular bay for it? Haven't some companies (like Asus) added USB 3.0 ports to tiny netbooks?

I imagine a lot of people (like me) would rather use the bay for a second HDD and will just use the esata port or get an expresscard adapter. Here's hoping Dell will release a USB 3+HDD e-modular bay.

I hope the screens are of decent quality as dell should have a plethora of 16x9 screens to choose from now.

Now we just have to wait and see what HP and Lenovo are going go do.
