It's all about configuring it yourself. The 1gig RAM option is quite useful if you decide to buy RAM yourself (because it's cheaper than getting it from Dell) or maybe you already have it lying around. Giving people options is a good thing, trust me ;)

On the cooling thing. On the M4400 the cooling was adequate but not stellar, the M4500 might do better but we'll only know when people are getting them.

Thats a good question for Havoctex.
Did Dell make any improvements in cooling on the M4500 from the M4400?

I can tell you the M6500 has no issues, but then again the case is also very large.

In terms of memory, I dont understand why so many configurations I am seeing on premiere have 1GB base options. Then if you go to add 4GB it adds like $350 to the price.

I just think much of it is arbitrary. I was configuring a T7500 for work today and the base hard drive is 250GB, to go to a 1TB SATA disk was $228.

Thats a drive that costs $90-$100 even at the most expensive retailers.

That sounds like a tad on the high side. With the base config mentioned you'd add $125 to get 4gb RAM. You could get it cheaper aftermarket but this way you do keep your whole system under Dell warranty.

Still haven't seen these pop up on Dell. I continue to search to find out how this new m4500 will work with an i7 when everyone, espcially dell, has been having so much trouble with them

What trouble are you talking about? Dell has been shipping the M6500 since Dec and we have had no issues due to the Intel Core i7 processors.

    Weegie,

I'm sticking to my claim, the Precision M4500 is the world's most powerful 15.6" mobile workstation. This is based on the fact that it is the only 15.6" to support both the Intel Core i7-920XM Extreme Edition CPU & the nVidia Quadro FX 1800M.

Working for Dell, you're opinion would be biased though. But until Dell, HP, and Lenovo comparable models are more easily obtained for comparison, we'll just have to wait for now..
