Disabling the Ambient sensor in bios works for me, the screen doesn't change in brightness or color when held directly towards the sunlight.

However i found a bug in the touch-pad where it doesn't save any settings you customize.

I should reiterate my "update." The issue I observed (changes in color tint on the display) was not caused by the ALS. It is being caused by an additional "undocumented" sensor in the upper left corner of the LCD. You can reference this post for more details: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=6049650&postcount=2798

I have successfully turned off the ALS in the BIOS, and verified it is not the "culprit" causing the display changes.

keithsnell, could you take a video of your experiment with the post-it paper? This hidden sensor could be quite an interesting discovery!

I think I remember someone saying it was a way to access your email and calender instantly without having to boot the entire operating system. I just can't remember and this thread is long and the search button sucks! :)

FYI, I ordered my 6500 (i7-720, 8G 1333, WUXGA RGB, FX2800, 128G SSD) on 2/24 with an orig ship date of 3/16. They missed that date (extended by a week to 2/23) and it shipped this morning 2/22.

Its basicly useless, atleast for me.... and as stated before, yes it lets you access your emails and calender without having to boot the entire computer. However, the computer has to to be in hybernation or standby i belive for the presicion on button to work as well as this installed : http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&deviceid=21586&libid=25&releaseid=R238355&vercnt=1&formatcnt=0&SystemID=PREC_M6500&servicetag=&os=W764&osl=en&catid=-1&dateid=-1&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&impid=-1&checkFormat=true

The way you access your emails is not through internet, rather what is saved in outlook, so it was useless for me.
