My work gave me my old M4300 laptop and it was working for a long time but my son said the screen is back. I hooked it up to an external monitor hit FNn F8 and it reads "Out of range 26.8k Hz/43Hz" I cant get it to start up in safe mode to try and fix it. I googled it and nothing came up! Could it be the video card? Motherboard? Andy suggesti0ons on what to try to debug this? Thanks...

Considering it's an M4300, it's almost certainly a bad GPU. And considering you need to replace the motherboard to replace the GPU, you should probably look for another laptop that doesn't have a melty Nvidia chip.

IGP D830 boards also aren't a bad option, I suppose.
