Mine has never downclocked playing crysis, warhead, the witcher, world in conflict, underworld, fear, far cry,far cry 2,orange box,aoe3 OR bioshock, but then I only play it at 1440x900 high texture's and actor detail, distortion on,everything else off......my experience with trying it at "max" quality, was that it was unplayable because of low framerates.

Sure the GPU gets hotter than I would like, but could say the same about most sub 17" notebook's I've had....from what you read on these forum's,the XPS 1530,G1S,etc are no better at lesser performance level's.......there's nothing new about heat with gaming on small to medium notebook's....even the M15X gets hotter than the M4400,and that's designed for gaming folk's with separate fans for GPU and cpu.

IMHO,it will never be an issue for most M4400 user's.

with the weather we've been having in the UK at the moment, i think my poor cold frozen lap would make a good notebook cooler

    where are you at?

there is central heating, but the room im renting at the moment has this air vent which i cant close, its good cos it lets fresh air in, but it also makes the room colder.

In New Zealand, summer is a bit late coming this year, burn time is down to about 15 minute's already though.

You need to tape a bit of cardboard or something over your open vent;)

Are you going to give that MX-2 or TX thermal paste a try,I wonder if it would show as big of a difference at the higher temps we have in notebook's,just quickly scanning through those reviews, they were all done on sub 50 deg desktop cpu's.

i knew mx2 was as good or better than as5, but i've never heard of the other one which seems to be winning the reviews.

my new unit should be here on or before the 12th, according to dell. i'll buy thermal paste for it when i get it after making sure its working fine etc.

im kind of skeptical about it because only one of the reviews let the AS5 properly cure

also as5 is proven for long term stability, i dont want to have to reapply again in a year or so....

i dont think i'll tape up the vent, because i eat in my room, if that vent wasnt there the room would really smell dodgy

i only really feel cold when i come back up from the kitchen lol....

I have (had) the same problem (tsk problem, no lag). Today I installed the new Bios (M4400A11) and the new Sound Driver (IDT_92HDXXX-HD-AUDIO_A05_R206244) and have not experienced the problem today (an hour or so of use).

If it appears I'll report. Let me know your experience, please.
