    hmm...the driver installation sequence DTS sent me via email is different from the one on the dell website : http://support.dell.com/support/top...0937D62A8739E0401E0A55174744&doclang=en&cs=#2

    i used the one on the website, this is what he sent me:

    Driver installation order for M4400

    * Dell(tm) Notebook System Software
    * Intel® Mobile Chipset Driver
    * IDT® STAC 9205 Audio Driver
    * Mobile Intel® GMA X4500 Video Controller
    * NVIDIA Quadro® NVS 160M
    * Ricoh R5C8xx Cardbus Controller
    * Intel Flash Cache Logic Chip (Intel Turbo Memory)
    * Dell Control Point Security Manager
    * Intel® 82567LM GigaLAN Network Controller
    * Wireless driver (if applicable)
    * MDC driver
    * Dell Touch Pad Driver
    * Bluetooth® driver and stack
    * SOL/LMS Driver
    * HECI Driver

    i wonder if it makes a difference...the audio driver is higher up in the one he sent me

    Just got my M4400 in the mail...

    Core 2 Duo 2.53 ghz
    4 GB
    Quadro FX 770M 512 mb
    64GB SSD
    1920x1280 RGBLED
    Intel 5300 wifi
    Backlit keyboard

    ...and within an hour the system crackled, shutdown and refused to start up again. Apparently the motherboard is bad. Considering I was a dedicated Thinkpad user, I'm not really impressed with Dell at the moment.

    Ouch! Looks like you will be spending some more time on the phone tomorrow. Don't settle for a repair. Get it replaced. Pulling out the motherboard will probably leave scars on your system. I expect several people on here to chime in with more precise consequences.

    If it's any consolation. I have had mine since October and I love it. Seeing as you are in Canada, mine probably was assembled at the same place as yours.

    I received my laptop directly from the assembly plant in the US.

    I have had no issues with the laptop so far. However, I have not played games with it either.

    My Seagate drive doesn't make a lot of noise however it has a ton of activity when idle. I haven't installed the new firmware yet as I am awaiting my new M4400. I'll let everyone know what happens.

    Strange. I haven't tried vista32 on here at all so I can't compare. 64 seems to be running ok here. I was surprised at how well it runs actually. I was expecting driver problems with my other peripherals but everything that I have plugged into the usb ports gets recognized and works without much effort so far.

    i really think its something i did wrong while installing the software. but i cant for the life of me figure out what. i followed the instructions properly, restarted after every driver install etc.

    im not a newbie at computers, there was one in my house since i was born lol...(yes i was lucky)

    hopefully when i call dell tomorrow i can get a solution. but i definitely am not happy with the hard drive noise.

    once i get that sorted out im gonna try a few games, monitor the temps and hopefully everything will be fine.
