Weegie my good man, what have you removed that is Dell specific? Does control point HAVE to load at startup once everything is set? What else can I eliminate from start up? And, just how proprietary is are these units? Most other laptops I've had I just download all drivers from the individual manufacturers sites...?

I'm usually the opposite,if I don't use it,I don't install the software for it,I have tried a lot of the software listed below though and some people are going to have no choice but to use a lot of it.
Here's what I don't have on my system, starting at the top of the dell driver page.

None of the 6 Dell control point application's
    Broadcom firmware for USH
Dell utility-system software....this one is the biggie for me,once installed, you have to reformat to get rid of it.you won't have smart card or USH functionality with this not installed.
    Openmanage client instrumentation
    Client configuration utility

I would also get rid of the intel pro wireless software if I could get XP to manage it properly, try removing it and see how fast your computer boot's and shut's down without it......unfortunately I can't operate without it,but it annoys the * out of me with the added processes and particularly shut down time added.

You have to be a bit careful as to what start up processes you stop, such as the zero configuration processes for intel,as you speed up the start/shutdown of the pc,but it takes 20 time's longer to make a connection with your router.

Nothing like a bit of trial and error though if you have some free time:D and there's plenty of websites that have process list's to assist.

hi i had a look at malaysia prices although no taxes a bonus price doesnt let you configure much which means that u technically not gettiin it cheap. i worked out the cost and that im better off getting it in uk with more for similar cost.

hey i seen your laptop on there and good spec. you should of kept the keyboard. u could get extra for it as the buyer wouldnt need to. i was going to buy the spec i wanted on ebay without the backlikt keyboard and then ask you if u still had it to sell seen as its just the keyboard it self that is backlit.
I would of bidded but it does have to be the 2.8ghz by default and max res o i think. (still undecided with resoluton lol)

1st time hell yeah I stated it :D 2nd time someone wanted to buy it so heck why not LOL! Removed it off the auction and gave it to the guy who couldn't afford the whole laptop. Good price too. Use warranty to get a keyboard replacement if yours messes up.
