I just installed it, haven't noticed anything new yet though. Kind of strange that as of today, I can't find any change log, not from Dell or online.

    Systems: Dell Precision M6400 Series
    Version: A03
    Build Date: 1/23/2009

    Fixes / Enhancements:
    1. Fixed issue where system may hang in certain memory configurations.

Interesting. These things are coming out in fairly rapid succession now. Let's hope they'll get around to fixing all the other issues with these machines as well. "Hang in certain memory configurations" seems a new one to me...

It will kind of work (at lower clock speeds), but it's the wrong adapter.

Yeah I am going to give it to my friend. The 150w should work?? Or should I use that with the laptop and the 210w they give me with the docking station??

After coming very very close to buying a Think Pad w700 I got the money jitters and went the Dell outlet route, which is totally new to me and I'd like any comments on what to expect. Got a pretty maxed out 6400, qx9300, Quadro FX3700, WUXGA RGB edge to edge, slot load DVD with Roxio, a 320 gig 7200rpm drive and pretty much everything else offered for $2300 including tax using a 20% coupon. Checked every 15 minutes for what seems like days to get close to what I wanted. The only thing I'd rather not have is the quad core, I'd prefer the x9100 but oh well, I suppose I can live with that. I'd like to know, since it sounds like this one has a single 320 drive, is the second bay there and all I need to do is slap a drive into it? I sure hope so. And exactly what are these 'refurbished' things like? Am I going to get an obviously used computer or do they do a little cosmetic clean up? The thing hasn't been in production that long so I'm not worried about getting something old, I just wonder what kind of machine ends up 'refurbished'. If it turns out nice, it'll be a hell of a deal. It checked out at 5400 bucks on the regular order page. Maybe I should get that 24" monitor.....and a dock, and.....one of everything.

Just wondering which OS are you running? I do agree there are still some issues. I have encountered the same behavior with my DVD drive as well. A friend of mine has the XPS M1530 with slot loading dvd burner. Booting from the dvd drive to a GUI environment is about 11 to 17% faster with the XPS. I don't know if the dvd drive slowness is a sign of a problem or just the way the M6400 is.

Hi. I have just received my third M6400 from warranty service, because of some manufacturing problems and one big problem - display flickering. I don't have LED RGB display and this flickering is visible only on blue (gradient) fields. You can see it e.g. for XP default blue settings - task bar flickers. And all three notebooks have this same problem. Technical support wanted to solve this problem, but I haven't received any report form them and warranty service sends automatically new notebooks after my complaint (it's nice), but with the same problem - without any word about reason and solution of this bug. So I don't know if I should request next one, or if this is common quality of this kind of hi-tech device and I will avoid blue color. Does anybody have identical problem? Is there any solution, e.g. re-installation or some patch for graphics system? Thanks for any answer, I have been solving this for 4 months and haven't got any reply from dell like "it's normal, this flickering" or alike.

    Max

PS: Sorry for my English ;o)

64-bit Vista; but the DVD is slow no matter what OS I run. For example, the Acronis rescue disk boots a Linux variant from the DVD, and this is also a lot slower than my 5-year-old M60, say. If it's an issue, then it must be a hardware or firmware issue, or the drive just being slow. It's not a huge deal, given that I don't use the drive that much, but on the other hand, it is an annoyance on a top-of-the-line machine of this kind.

I have one and love it, they will have the extra caddy in place underneath the laptop. It is super easy to access the drive bays and add more ram or HD's underneath. I love my laptop. The only thing I didnt get that I would like to have is a Quad Core CPU, but since I mainly game and use it for items that a quad core wouldn't utilize, I can live. I hope you got the accidental warranty as well... Good investment to have. As for the condition, mine came with a few spots on the screen and that's it, totally clean.
