Have any of you used virtualbox? I have to say it performed a little better than I thought. Running a vista host, seamless mode with ubuntu absolutely rocks!

Last weeek, I was on battery while giving a talk, wireless off, RGBLED at lowest brightness, 2700M, single HDD. Battery ran down by 50% in 1 hr 20 mins; a bit disappointed, I had it hoped it would be more.

While working on mine with wireless, and decent brightness, I usually get over 2 hours. A spare battery may be a good idea.

Allowing the display to turn off probably also helps a bit. There is also the mode that turns off various extraneous devices such as the CDRom, and various ports. That probably would gain you a bit of time.

I am guessing that the previous poster was referring to Dell ControlPoint Power Manager. In that screen, you can set so that the machine will turn off various built in hardwares to extend battery run time.

    Thanks.
I'm not being to set it for individual power schemes, ie. I want to turn the peripherals off when on battery, but for AC use, I want everything on. Can this be done ? Right now, when I enable advanced power management in DCP, it seems to get applied in all power schemes

Are you going through Vista power management? If you are, don't.
This is how I get to that screen:
    - Open 'Dell ControlPoint'
    - Click on 'Power Management' button on the left
    - Look on the right and near the botom of that screen and click on 'Manage Power Settings' button
    - A new windowed screen shoud open which is 'Dell ControlPoint Power Manager'
    - Look on the right and near the bottom of that screen again and you should see 'Extended Battery Life' option
    - From here, you can use 'Enable' which enable all options or use 'Configure' to configure individual component.
This is all I know. Sorry if it's no help.
