Sorry about that. I actually came here last night to post about, got side-tracked and never got started.

    The saga continues...

We left off with them sending a tech out with a new screen manufactured by a different company. That was on the 24th... x-mas eve.

The tech set me up for 4pm on Friday evening 12/26. I was thinking... oh maybe 30 minutes and we would be all fixed up. The tech arrives, I have a huge pot of homemade soup on the stove simmering and should be ready to eat about 6pm, so no problem with him occupying our kitchen table for a little while. I get tickled talking about this... it was really funny. The tech walks in with the entire guts of an M6400 and yet another LG screen. I won't get into all of it, but it was an experience. The tech had never worked on an M6400 and I did not think he would ever get it apart and back together again. He left me at 6:45pm with a laptop that literally looks like it has been through a tornado, new screen scratched, screen bezel busted, top of computer scratched... UN-believable... UN-UN-believable!

TWO laptops... the FOURTH LG screen and a beat up laptop later, the problem STILL exists.

So... they decided to send me yet another M6400.

Got it yesterday... SAME problem... no difference at all. They obviously have a serious issue with their LG screens.

I am frustrated, but I really do want the laptop. It is everything I have wanted, well... almost. I love it all accept the screen. I even managed a 30% discount.

I have contemplated upgrading to the 17" UltraSharp™ WUXGA (1920x1200) RGB LED Display [add $299]. However, I did not really want to spend an extra $300 and I am not sure I can adjust to a 1920 x 1200 resolution after working with a 1440 x 900 for so long. I am worried I won't be able to read the screen. And... that would be assuming they have no issues with that screen.

I just don't know... I plan to call them again tomorrow and go through all the bologna again.

just get the 1920x1200 screen and increase the DPI to 130, or more if you require :)

Have you tried to calibrate the monitor?

And please do not get RGB LED, you will regret it.

Why do you say that? Seems like most people have raved about it.

Photographers who work in Adobe RGB color space in PhotoShop, Ligthroom and over color-managed applications. It doesn't display colors correctly outside those applications. Windows and most of the programs work in sRGB color space and do not know how to handle Adobe RGB. So if you use this laptop for Photoshop like >75% of time - yeah, it is worth it! If not, you better stick with regular non-wide gamut displays (sRGB color space).

hmmm, I can't talk for anyone else, (and I don't mean to disagree) but I am a photographer, I do own the Covet with the E2E RGB screen. I use the laptop for all of the above.
I really appreciate the 100% Adobe color in (Photoshop) Lightroom and enjoy how vivid the colors are in every other application (web browsing, movies, and Vista).
Everyone I have so far shown the laptop to is amazed at how vivid and nice the colors are. They do really jump out at you (not in an offensive way, just a WOW!!!)
I have never heard anyone who has seen my laptop say that there were too many colors or that it looked off.
To me, watching a movie on a laptop there cannot be too many colors...
If you compare the screen to any other laptop then you really see how much of an improvement it is.
    YMMV

Just change the sRGB profil to the Adobe RGB profil in windows and the colors look perfekt in any application! ;)

Does changing the DPI degrade the quality of the image? I guess I have not ever really thought about that... and I suppose I could try it on this machine I am on now.

So I have a Lattitude E6500 with the WUXGA screen that still has a very blue push on the screen! I thought I had calibrated it well, but I also had no other screen to put it into context.. I brought in another laptop today and realized the amount of blue on the E6500 is CRAZY.. Everything that is supposed to be yellow looks slightly greenish!

Is this a completely unsolved/unknown (aside from the OP) issue? I plan on calling Dell tomorrow..

Hi, I am not sure if I am having the same problem as you, but I noticed the color on my M6400 (17" WUXGA RGB LED) is way over saturated. I had a dell technician came over and replace the LCD and motherboard, but it didn't solve the problem. The technician agreed that the color is off, so its not my mind going crazy.

Anyway here are a few pictures take from a digital cam. Sorry for the image quality, but it is the only way I could show the difference.

If you compare the eyes, the image from the M6400 appears to be much saturated (blue) and unnatural.

Please let me know if you are experiencing the same issue.
