"Talking about DELL in the UK"
    Hi,

How do you order i7 920 processors ? It doesn't give me such option on the website (all it shows in processor option is "Mobile Precision M6500 Silver Base") so I called dell sales team to find out which processor is there, and on the website it shows "Up to Intel® CoreTM i7- 920XM Quad Core Extreme processors" so i thought it might be as the only option and goes as standard), they told me that m6500 is only available with i7 820 (1.73hz) and the machine is upgradable to i7 920. heh ? seems like scam

Meantime I can't choose 2 HDD with 500GB, as primary only ATA and secondary is only SATA.

P.S. Sales team is very bad, asked me 2-3 times for everything, like they don't listen to my answers, and repeat their question again and again.

Told them, i am interested in m6500 precision laptop and have few questions, and what do you think she asks me ? "Ok, that's good, so what machine are you interested in" OMG!!!

I'm not 100% sure but I quoted up that machine 100 times over the last 3 weeks.

3 weeks ago you could configure everything.

About a week ago the interface was completely different, i mean completely not the usual list or icon views but a special wizard style.

About 4 days ago that style was reverted and since then you cannot configure about 40% of the machine (cpu, gpu, 2nd hdd nor raid options)

The bizarre thing is that you can choose a different 1st HDD then because the 2nd drive if fixed at 160gb and you cannot change the RAID option you can't even check out!

Crap isn't it, luckily I wanted 2 160gb drives which was standard and the i7 820 which was standard.

    Otherwise good luck

Damn, that's weird. Everyone were talking about how customizable that machine is, but now can't do anything, and sales team from Dell aren't giving any answers. Have to wait i guess, that Dell will look into it.

If anyone in similar situation, calling sales team, won't give you any answers either.

You are calling the business side of dell?

I know when I had an XPS machine back along they had a different number for ordering and support of XPS machines.

When you call the main number you had a variety of people who spoke english as a second language (trying to be very P.C.) and I couldn't get anywhere with them.

When you called the XPS number you got somebody in the same country you are in, and if you called out of hours for your country you had either Canadian, Amercian or Australian support with operators with english as their first language.

Maybe look for a specialist line and try and get transferred after explaining the operator that you want to order from someone in the country your in?

Who makes a 500GB 2.5" HDD that is not SATA? That looks to be a typo in Dell's info.

You don't seem to have been getting through to anyone who understands the hardware.

What i tend to do is give sales a call, ask for their e-mail and send them the config i want through mail and have them check everything and get me a quote. VERY often the configuration menu online doesn't give all options available or has other quirks in it.

Unfortunately this is not a new Problem with the Dell Websites

When i was to order my M6400 in February this year, i also have played through some configurations with the Web Configuration.

    - The constrains are often set in the wrong way (You can not choose this processor with this wlan Option etc, but this combination is possible in real)

    - Not all available Options are shown in the Web Configuration

    - All this Options changes often (sometime every 2nd day)

So my experience is, if you like to order something from DELL, grab the Phone and call them!!

The Sellers on the Phone have 10 times more options and you allways can handle out a special price (i got a 750 € rebate).

    regards
    Christopher
