The Intel graphics panel and windows display settings won't detect the 2nd display, a 24" BenQ 1920x1080 monitor on an hdmi cable.
Anyone else try to get an external monitor work off the intel HD 3000 integrated graphics?

M6600 requires a dGPU to use the HDMI and DisplayPort connections.

Thank you for the info. That is very interesting. I assumed that the i5 2520m cpu could run an external monitor at 1920x1080 on it's own. This laptop is bear to install a Gpu.

The iGPU is capable, it is just not "connected" to the HDMI port in this system. You can use an external monitor via VGA, that one is hooked to the iGPU.
(Dell didn't ship any systems without a dGPU installed, so this is not a situation that "ordinary users" would run into.)

The iGPU is not wired for HDMI/DP, however I believe that it is wired to the VGA port.
