    Hi

Despite my reservations about both, I think my choices for the next machine for me to buy is between the XPS 17 and the M6600.

Could any owners of current-model QC/4000M M6600's with Optimus post their experiences of runtimes in Wifi-enabled power saving modes?

Please quote spec and type of use - as it'll help me narrow down the choice.

    Many thanks

There, I fixed it for ya :D I don't have optimus but I have seen between 3-6 hours reported with optimus, assuming you are only doing basic things such as web browsing, office, etc.

Edit: Seriously, don't go down the XPS17 path. You won't be happy.

Yeah - as I've written elsewhere, with the XPS I've had basically little but unreliable crud on a par with Apple, as well as terrible CS and mediocre support.

With the Precisions I've had hellish buying issues - in terms of just getting the machine I asked for, new and not anything else - but I do have to say the product itself, when it's not FOA or DOA, has been generally stable / solid and I can't fault Prosupport in terms of pure tech resolution (CS is, again, something else).

So given the two evils, I'm definitely leaning towards the M6600 - but I have to be able to get as close to ~6 genuine ekeing hours as possible out of it when I'm travelling. Hopefully a decent sample size of runtimes here should either confirm that or make me look for further options. On what I've seen so far, it's not looking definitive - the 7 hours quoted by one of the posters above seems unrealistic given the rest of the runtimes posted as responses in the main thread.

However, given that both machines do more or less meet the criteria that I had for this purchase, I'll still have to say runtime is a key factor in the choice.

Still don't really have numbers beyond what would amount to anecdotal levels even in the other thread. I need about a sample of ten to give me a reasonable idea. Anyone else with runtimes? Thanks

My M6600 far outlasts the XPS and the build quality is so superior. I have had around 6 hours run time on the M6600 but would only get half or less from the XPS. Mind you I rarely operate off power so have not paid too much attention. I do not even think the two should be compared. Go with the M6600 if the price is right.
