    Hey guys,

I'm fairly certain my brothers HD in his Precision M90 went the other day. I fairly tech savy but am new to working on laptops.

I found documentation on how to remove the HD and it seems pretty easy.

My only question is what kind of HD to I get to replace it? It says how to remove it in the manual but not what type it is.

Do all (or most) laptops have standard 2.5" Drives? If so it would seem I could but this one Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD1600BEVT 160GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive and just insert it into the hard drive caddy after removing the old one?

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/wsm90/en/ug/parts.htm#wp1052489 is the documentation for it.

    Thanks a ton in advance!

Yes your M90 will support any 2.5" SATA notebook drive on the market these days. As it is an older style Dell, yes 2 screws and the HDD caddy comes out, then 2-4 screws on the caddy and the HDD comes out.

Why purchase such a small drive? You can typically find the Scorpio Blue 500 GB for ~55-60 dollars. Newegg has it right now for 53.99 shipped, you get triple the space for ~14 dollars more.

    Thanks for the help.

Its for my brother and he hardly used up his current 160gb hd, so we just ended up ordering the 250 gig one for $51 with shipping. He'll never use more than that lol.

Thanks for the 500gb suggestion tho :)
