I used R200184.EXE at the TinyURL link, and it worked.

Did anyone have issues getting the multimedia keys going? For example, volume does nothing. Device Manager reports it as a Standard PS/2 keyboard.

I don't think you can use the nvidia driver for your notebook videocard, almost all notebook vendor provide their modified version of videocard driver for nvidia. I don't understand why they do it but it is very annoying. Best to just look for the driver from other models.

Um, not that I want to risk getting anyone in trouble, but if you can tell me, how did you get the Vista-64 DVD? Dell is giving me a hard time about sending me one: instead they want me to return the entire computer!

I got the Vista Business Downgrade and there was nothing on the sales receipt that said I was going to get a 32-bit OS. This is absurd since the Core2Duo processor is 64-bit!

I plan to escalate to a supervisor, but it would sure help to be able to say others in the same situation have gotten the DVD... Thanks!

Hi, an update to my prior post. After four different calls to Dell I managed to find a Customer Care representative who was willing/able to Care about Customers - thanks to her, I now have a 64-bit Vista disk! I will post my experiences on upgrading to this version at a later date.

Meanwhile, for anyone who would like to get the 64-bit disk, I have the following suggestions from my experience:

    1. Start with Customer Care, not Technical Support.

    2. At the *beginning* of the conversation, get the Customer Care rep's name and 7-digit extension! Dell's phone system has an ugly habit of simply disconnecting you. This happened to me on 2 different occasions, the second one being 30 minutes into the call! It doesn't help that the rep doesn't bother to call you back when that happens.

    3. The Customer Care rep will transfer you to Technical Support, who must authorize the 64-bit disk. Specifically, they will verify it is compatible with your machine. The one I spoke to said it was OK but since Dell doesn't sell retail Vista 64-bit, he encouraged me to go buy one at Best Buy! I stated this was not acceptable and to put me back in Customer Care; the next person I spoke to there asked me to confirm the compatibility question was answered by Tech Support and overnighted me the new DVD the next day!

    Hi there

I managed to get 64bit vista running on my vostro 1510 with no problems, did take me a while though.

What I will do is make a little pack containing all of the drivers.

the hardest ones that i had to find were the mouse and quickset drivers, but ones from other laptops and generics worked fine.

IF before you wipe your 32bit install, you go into the dell driver folder on C:, you will find that some of the drivers in there already have a 64bit folder (i know that the chipset and audio do for definite)

give me an hour or two and i'll have it all put together for you

Hi duke_stix. I found this thread in a Google search. I am looking for 64-bit drivers for my Dell Vostro 1510 too.

Can you please provide the above-mentioned pack for download somewhere?

    Thanks!
