    @Redhidus

    Could you tell me if they had replaced your motherboard with the same one.

    Or were you able to get another make ?

    I have the same issue and they are shipping out a replacement tomorrow. I was just wondering if its possible that the issues have been solved. And the newer GPUs do not have this problem ? :confused: :confused: :confused:

    Could anyone please shed some light on this ???

    My GPU had failed too (8400M GS) . I had sent it back for repairs, and for a change the Dell guys on the phone (it was a lady actually!) did not need too much convincing to fix my lappy out of warranty. They readily agreed and today I received my Vostro 1400 with a replaced mobo today. Lets see how long this one lasts!

    @nokiac... thats coz most of the laptops (HP n dell) with this graphic card burned out pretty bad. and many filed complaint against em.. so they had to fix all the lappies for free.... i didnt have any warranty but still they fixed my motherboard and graphic card ... but i think they under-clocked or did somethin to the GC... i was not able to run games like witcher after recieving my fixed laptop. It used to run smoothly earlier.
    Now my GC gets pretty heated when i run any graphic rel programs... like maya. Thinkin to buy new1... prolly... alienware :D :D

    This looks like overheating related issue actually.
    Use Everest (trial will do), and look at the temperature of your GPU (go in Everst, on the side column to Computer > Sensor).

    74 idle.... that's not good for a mobile GPU. It should be in the 50's at most. Meaning under load it most likely reach 100C which is the max temperature of the GPU. It could be that, or faulty GPU.
    Even if you are out of warranty, Dell will cover the faulty 8000 series GPU's.
