i've had windows 7 on there for about 2 weeks, 2 installs though as i reinstalled.

the first install had slight problems, such as when i returned from sleep - half the time, it would not allow the touchpad to work, only the trackpoint. Also internet explorer 8.0 would not allow certain things such as the facebook chat to work at all so was using firefox for a week, always in safe mode.

once i reinstalled (same version, everythng) - havent had a problem since, never a sleep problem or the touchpad not working, internet explorer 8.0 works to the fullest amount, etc.

windows 7 seems to be alot faster, especially enjoy the boost in battery life, etc. the 2 drivers not installed are the broadcom ssh and the sm bus controller but have yet to find something not working as i'm not sure 100% to what the broadcam relates too.

have a question though: my bluetooth light is on and i can't seem to find anywhere in the control panel anything with bluetooth to turn it off, etc (and i know i have bluetooth in the machine). anyone know if its actually on? just don't want it on for battery life

The Broadcom SSH requires the Dell ControlPoint Security Driver on Vista.

The SM Bus Controller is discussed here.

i'm starting to think dell never installed a bluetooth device in my laptop. and i really don't want to send this back for them to add it in there.

installed the 370 drivers, but keeps saying there is no device to be found after the installation was complete. the light is lit up but can't windows doesn't see it (vista and w7) and neither does the dell program

just pop open the back and check. if they didnt send you one, just make them send it, its seriously easy to install by yourself. you might also have the 410 module?

Hmmmm...curious. I initially had a problem installing BT after I installed Windows 7 Beta. I would attempt to install and was told the device was not supported, or something to that affect. After a few Google searches, I was able to get it installed by running the BT setup program in compatibility mode for Vista. Give it a try before contacting Dell.

has anyone noticed that windows 7 seems to reset the repeat rate on the keyboard under certain circumstances? I have to go back into the keyboard control panel, change the rate, apply, and change it back, and apply.

edit -- is anyone reading this forum at all anymore?

This is unhelpful, because no mater what HDD speed it is, 4200, 5400, 7200, 10000 RPM on SATA-II, Windows Index shows 1.9 - 2.0. Moreover, if you disable writing cache... your system is not slower nor faster. (In Vista is drastically slows down when you disable such feature), and for some reason once disabled, your Index score sky rocket to Vista score. They are other ways to improve Win7 WEI for the HDD, by changing the block size... but that, again, doesn't help increase system speed. In other words, the HDD test is broken.
