I got fingerprint working in W7 Beta.

I ran into issue originally, but I realised I was accidentaly trying to install Vista x86 drivers. I had accidentaly backspaced too many times on the Dell driver page and skipped over the x64 drivers. Once I downloaded the correct version, DELL_CONTROLPOINT-SECURITY-M_A07_R206123, it installed Wave and I just went through the normal Wave Wizard to get everything working.

Windows update installed the SD card driver, appeared uninstalled at first in Device Manager.

My Bluetooth mouse is working, but I have no Bluetooth icon in W7. I suspect this is a BIOS thing as my Bluetooth mouse works in their too.

Ok... so everything has been going ok except for 2 somewhat significant issues under Windows 7:

    1) My fan seems to stay on for very long periods of time... almost like it's stuck on. I have the Intel 4500HD integrated graphics and a WD Scorpio Black 320GB 7200rpm drive on the machine. Any ideas on processes or applications that are running in Win 7 that are causing this? Mind you this is a Super Clean install and I haven't installed anything other than the OS and Office 2007.

    2) I have this weird issue where my LCD back-light will randomly just turn-off completely after being idle for maybe 10 or 15 minutes. Mind you it doesn't dim, it just goes completely dark... you can kind of see the faint outlines of open windows in the background, but you can't get anything done! I've changed all the settings in power management but it still happens all the time. I even tried installing the Ambient light sensor utility (which doesnt seem to even work under 7) Hitting FN + <-- (Auto Brightness key) will wake it up sometimes, but sometimes not... like it gets stuck off and I have to hold down the power button to reboot! Not good at all!!!

UPDATE: I noticed that hitting FN + <-- while the screen is on turns the back-light completely off from being on... but then it doesn't wake back up without hitting a weird combo of FN + Brightness up or down... really strange! I'm assuming there may be a driver or Dell Control App I have to install?

Anyone else have any issues like mine?!

Any and all help is truly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

so i need to install wave? d*mnit. i was really hoping to get it operating using the built in api in win7.

as for the issues in the above, i havent experienced either, and have been able to push my laptop longer at a cooler temperature in win7 than in vista. after installing all of the chipset and sata controller drivers, i have had almost no (one crash of winword) stability problems.

Does anyone have a list of all the Drivers they re-installed after putting on Windows 7. I only ask because most everything was installed already after putting it on my machine, however if they aren't the right drivers, I want to make sure and re-install the proper drivers.

i strongly suggest installing ALL of the chipset and sata controller drivers, as you will get system instability problems without them. i also strongly suggest that you use the latest ones specifically provided by dell, and not direct from intel. the others depend on whether you are experiencing any particular problems.

also, i am assuming that you did a clean install rather than an upgrade? if not, i STRONGLY suggest doing so, it is generally a much better idea when installing beta OSes to not add in the additional variable of upgrade-installs.

    Dear all,

I installed Windows 7 one week ago. Everything was ok but on last week when my E6400 was installing update after shutdown, I forced it off by pressing power button over 5 seconds.

After that, I found my E6400 match wrong with Video Card Adapter (it had gone to blue screen many times with video card... warnning, some stranges appeared on my screen). I installed Windows 7 for many times but it has still matched these errors. Finnaly, I installed Windows Vista and everything seem ok.

Is there anyone meet this problem or have a solution?

    Thanks & Regards

PS: My E6400 has follow configuration:
    - Intel Core 2 2.53
    - RAM: 2GB
    - Video card: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M (256MB - but I saw on its property that it alo has used 700MB share of RAM)

can you give me some more details on this? it is hard to trouble shoot without either the BSOD code or the debug information. on a separate note, would strongly advise that you get your ram up to 4gig.

It seems Picasa doesn't work under W7. Everytime I try to install it (--> double-clicking the setup.exe), the process is being started but nothing happens. Except the wireless connection somehow being jammed totally. Only a hard reboot works as shutting down or restarting doesn't work either.

    Anybody else having this problem?

I'm installing Win7, after installing, when it goes to boot, the boot crashes to blue screen and restarts everytime. In safe mode the last item accessed is DISK.SYS. I'm assuming I need to install some drivers during the Win7 install??? Help!
