@svl7, I see you revived the dead GPU, Nice! How'd you manage that? May give me hope for tinkering more with my 6970s.

Desoldered the flash memory chip from the PCB, reprogrammed it with the original vbios and soldered it back to the card. Got the programmer from ebay, was pretty cheap... it doesn't officially support the chip, but it worked.
Here's a little summary of the procedure and some pictures.

It's definitely great to know that it can be done with affordable equipment, but the whole procedure takes longer that I expected... it's nothing you want to do several times per day, but it's good to have a last option in case some experiments fail.

Successfully increased the core voltage of the CPU...

-Don't do this, it's crazy, highly dangerous for the hardware and not really useful... but a lot of fun :D Look at this, TS Bench... check out the multi:

[IMG] That's during the run... the result can be seen here, 11.645 seconds. Beat that :)

After measuring the max standard voltage of my CPU I increased it by 200mV with a VID pinmod to about 1.350V.
That's already pretty close to the "absolute maximum Vcc rating" that Intel describes in the datasheets.

Already had two shutdowns, PSU light went out immediately, had to unplug it and plug it back to make it working again... so this is nothing healthy I guess.
Will make more benchmarks when I find time and cooling, ambient temperatures are too crazy for benching atm, and I don't have air conditioning.

Will also see what I can do with the BCLK, maybe I can now push it more than usual, without crashing all the time. Want to get to those 4GHz which king DR650SE got with his 920xm in the M17x :)

Edit: TS bench at 28x, BCLK at 144Mhz, results in 4.032GHz on all cores :D

Jesus svl7 that's an insane clock/multi on that chip! Nice job man! Good to see you got your GPU revived here's something for you to chase ;)

I got a chance to run some more Vantage runs, here it is, over 15k GPU! :D

Great score Dane, congrats!! Those memory speeds are crazy, I can't go over 1120MHz or so... The Hynix VRAM is definitely very good.

My next goal is 16k vantage total score (dunno whether I can get 15k GPU)... let's see what I can do with this mod... :D I doubt it will help, everyone who knows some basic physics knows that an increase in voltage results in a crazy increase of the power draw, hahahaha, lol.

Thank you! You're the guy who inspired me to do this! :D I might have to lower the voltage a bit, power draw is crazy. I will do more tests as soon as I have time and cooling.

I think this would be great in a M17x since it can draw more power...

I'm feeling very useless compared to you guys.

@svl7 -- Jeez, awesome clocks/power. Be interested to see just how much you can harness and apply. Scary what you've been doing lately.

@Dane -- Amazing scores with that 6970M. You've gone batshet crazy in your benchmarking endeavors and are blowing everyone else away. I surrender and don't even have a R3 yet. Your wife is looking for you; she's tired of you disappearing into the man-cave with all the new refrigeration equipment.

@Inap -- Great color. Is this one paint or the decal process?

    +Rep to all when allowed.

@The Rev: Still need some testing... I'll look that I can get my hands on a 210W or 240W PSU somehow, the kill-o-watt reports during the very short tests I've done so far are scary. Peaks at 200W, hahaha.

As I said, it's probably not very healthy for the hardware, but a lot of fun so far. Maybe I can do some more stuff with setFSB now that we have some more BIOS options. I guess if I set the QPI to the lowest possible setting I might be able to clock higher without the RAM crashing. Need to test a lot of things when I find enough time.

Thanks Rev, don't know about batshet crazy lol. Just pushing it lightly in increments with slight tweaks in between. Thanks though ;) You shouldn't surrender, heck no one thought they'd match my 5850 GPU score when I had it but it's been obliterated pretty bad by you :D She is actually the one who got me the cooling equipment and told me to do some more benching :D :D :D

How do you access the heatsink in the r3? Same as in the r2? Or do you have to bench with an external display when using dry ice (like with the M15x)?

everything is on the bottom like the M15x, thinking of just flipping it upside down on a glass table or something. sometime i get problems benching on external sometimes. dice looks fun, really looking forward messing around with it. my ac unit is officially busted too, my baby boi manage to stick a couple of pencils through the vent and broke the blower :(.

Aw, sucks... so you're forced to go the dry ice route. Keep care with condensing water, especially if the air humidity is high, but shouldn't be a big problem. Some duct tape will come in handy (and gloves, hahaha)

Looking forward to seeing some pics!

What I did was place a microfiber cloth on a table an lay the computer down on it belly up, put the dice on the heatsinks and bench on an external through either hdmi or vga. With the dice it definitely helps on 11 and Vantage but didn't do anything for me on 06 for some weird reason.

    Cool! That's on stock clocks?

If you want your score to be included in the list on the first page you need to post a screenshot with GPU-Z, CPU-Z and the result visible, like in this post. If you don't care about the highscore list it doesn't matter :)

We need to send a posse out for Dane and prevail on him to update the boards so we have some idea of how scores are trending. Would probably encourage a little more benching, particularly with the arrival of all these new 920xm's and 6970M's.

Could you attach the picture with a slightly higher resolution? It's hard to read, but I think this should work as well, the HWiNFO summary reports the clock speed of GPU and CPU.

The scores are exactly what you get at stock clocks, so everything's fine.

Edit: @The Rev: Yeah, that's an idea :D I too hope people will do some more benching, would be great to see some more 6970ms in a M15x getting pushed to the limits... I plan to do a session in a week or two, depends on when I can squeeze it in.

usually in grocery stores they have blocks of dry ice you can buy and they just weigh it out and tell you the price shouldn't be more that a few bucks, at least it wasn't the last time i bought some.
