10lbs. that will keep you cool for a while.
-
Yeah, that's what I usually get as well, it's enough for a lot of benching runs and if you have spare dice blocks when you're done you can still make fun things with it, e.g. cool drinks, throw it in the pool of the neighbor and watch him go crazy when he sees that his pool is smoking
etc., hahaha, it's up to your imagination!
-
haha yep its always a good time when dice is in the mix
-
svl you have pics of your dice setup?
-
DaneGRClose Notebook Virtuoso
LOL got ya all beat, the store I get mine from is about 2-3 blocks away from my house
and at $0.49/lb I'm ready to dice it up anytime you guys want to throw a score out that rivals mine
Oh and Inap 10lbs of dice will melt on your rig in 2-4 hours depending on how you place it on your rig, this thing chews through the dice if you're really running it the whole time lol.
On another note, I'll get the scores updated by this weekend if everyone PM's me all of their scoresHaven't really had anything much PM'ed to me since the last update.
-
Then I cool the heatsinks/pipes. It's effective and easy... of course it would be fun having a pot and making a mix with alcohol and dice, but that's not necessary, and I don't have equipment (there's no such stuff available for notebooks, you'd have to make it yourself).
Here are some pics of the system and a box with dry ice pellets:
-
hahah tha svl, man that just looks awesome. hoping i can get some heatsink in so i can custom out a dice pot for it.
-
Great idea, I know someone who can possibly do some CNC stuff for me, so I'm designing a heatsink... I guess while I'm at it I could create something for benching as well... hope it really works out in the end.
If I can make something I'll let you know, at least the screws for the heatsink have the same layout in all MXM 3.0 compliant systems.
Can't promise anything atm, first of all I have to see whether I can really get access to the CNC machine. -
yeah i know a CNC guy too, actually its the dude that owns the viper i posted on TI. But don't really want to bother him with such a small job. I do have access to a 2 axis router but its very limited to what i can do with only 2 axis.
-
Yeah, a 2 axis router won't be of much use for something like this... Well, I'll see what I can do. Hope I can get at least the heatsink done.
-
it looks like i will get a free gpu heatsink from usmc. so now just need a cpu HS. man love the people here.
also just received the bios chip for logan too. thank svl -
Cool!!
Took them a whole week to send a letter across the globe... that's the absolute maximum for priority mail, bad luck. Let me know whether you can successfully revive the 5870m or not. -
yeah gonna let logan do the soldering, since i have no skills what so ever, hahah
will keep you posted. -
Hey Inap, I made a quick sketch in Solidworks... I don't really know how to use it though, only the very basics... but somehow it already looks like it would be a lot of fun to use, what do you think?
I quickly made some measuring on my spare heatsink, it should theoretically fit all MXM 3.0 GPUs, but it would probably require careful handling, as with the retention mod... -
dude that is sick. mine will look super ghetto compared to that hahaha
i will happily pay what ever you want to get my hand on that, heheh -
Hahaha, I don't think I'll get this milled... would need a massive copper block... way too expensive I guess. But I might just make it without the cylinder on it, (just the plate) and then solder/weld a piece of metal pipe to it.
But first of all I'll see that I can make a heatsink. -
really interested in your hs design. hopefully you can make one without breaking the bank.
-
Yeah, I'll just use the heatpipes of a spare M15x heatsink, otherwise it's pretty much impossible I guess. I'll just design the plate.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
You guys are amazing. Custom DICE pots. Not your father's NBR forum. LOL. What a hoot. Looks great, and the intimidation factor rocks. Deal me in.
-
i'm pretty happy with the r3 heatsinks since temps have been pretty good, just need to come up with something for benching.
-
-
i can get o2 free copper for free but would have to find a place to melt it down then someone would have to cad the design and send it to a mill. not totally our of the realm of possibilities but kind of a stretch.

My first run with my new 920 CPU.

Excellent!! Keep pushing! And don't forget to PM DaneGRClose all the results which make it in the top 5!
-
wow nice run Oldakowski!! impressive memory clocks. i could never run mine that high.
-
Oh boy do I have some news! I think I have hit the all time high for the XM940/ GTX460m Combo. I just scored 17240 3dmark06 score and currently running vintage while I type this on my M11x which makes over 10K on 3dmark06
Long story shor I havent touched my M15x in about 3 weeks since I recieved my M11xr3. I just love the power and size of it. But seeing all these new bench scores I thought I would give it a try since my old scores were never put up on the board. These scores better this time!
-
man thats awesome, its right up there with the 5850 crowd. congrats Kurt.
-
just wait a sec inap I think the 2nd or 3rd post someone said they are coming for you. Well My last vintage run my display driver crashed and it didnt stop going and I got a crappy score of like 79?? marks but the CPU was just a few hundred behind you! Pics coming in 2 min!
-
OK here goes I only ran 3dmark06 2 times and didnt change a thing and this is what I got. As far as the vintage My card crashed and went to stock clocks so the score isnt enough for me to post them but the CPU score sure the HECK IS!

-
Well thats the 2 spot for vintage CPU scores the 1 spot for GTX 460m 3dmark06 if i could be in the ATI rankings I would beat out all the 5870's and half the 5850's.
-
Excellent work, impressive!! Especially the vantage CPU, how did you keep your system cool enough?
-
No bottom panel and a nice cold german night. Can someone please hit up dan I cant seem to be able to PM him or anyone for that matter.
-
Nice!! Yeah it got a bit colder in Europe during the last couple of days... summer, y u no here?
But at least it you were able to get some nice scores, hahaha, keep it up, +rep
Click here to send him a message, should work: http://forum.notebookreview.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=327068 -

Congrats on the scores KurtH, I did a update for you so you can see it before you leave. Good luck and take care of yourself.
Guys I will update the rest of the scores this weekend if you PM me the scores
Edit: Daymm svl7 you had to post a direct PM link to me didn't you lol. -
hEHey dont forget the CPU score Its clearly right behind Inap
-
Nevermind...

I really hope the things you've said over your last couple comments are a joke KurtH. I updated that as a courtesy to you so you could see that but had absolutely nothing requiring me to do that. Do us all a favor and keep your discussion very general or stay on topic for notebooks only. I will do an update later tonight and hope to see your comments edited as there's no need for attitude or certain types of conversation on her. Good luck with the trip and be safe.
-
I pushed a bit more. I believe this places me at 3rd for the 5850s in 3dmark06.

Good job!! You should be able to get a 3dM11 highscore as well.
-
-
still surprised that my cpu score has held up for this long, congrat again kurt, hope to see someone beat it but not by too much, heheh
just picked up a block of dry ice for fun, just noticed my local supermarket sells them, not the cheapest place to buy but still very convenient. -
DaneGRClose Notebook Virtuoso
I understand nothing was directed towards any one person but there was a few comments made that may alienate some people which isn't the point of the forum, it's to bring people together and have fun with notebook related topics. I'll do an update after work and throw your cpu score on there for you. It's an awesome score by all means, congrats again.
-
Man even though I have an OEM 920XM, I can still never get 27x. All kinds of crashes. Oh well. My bumble-bee might be for sale soon now that 3D and 580m are in holy matrimony in the R3.
-
Edit: Actually I've never seen a 920xm handling 27x on all cores without increased voltage. -
My highest run with 26x across all cores. Pretty happy with it.
