Like you'd think the M6800 would work with pascal, but I think someone reported recently it doesn't

I sourced the WX7100 through Taobao, 100 dollars cheaper than eBay, used Taobao very good service imao but the payment methods are a bit time consuming at first since Taobao only accepts PayPal at orders under 200 USD or something.

    Hello,

I would like to upgrade the GPU of my HP ZBook G2 which currently has an i7-4810MQ and a Quadro K1100m (3.0a). I thought to replace it with a GTX 970m but I do not know if I will have problems with the vBios or the voltage and if the cooling will be enough.

There is the location to switch to 3.0b format. Someone has already changed the G2 by a series 9x?

    Thanks for your help :)

You can put a 3.0a in a 3.0b slot not the other way around. The max you can do is likely a 965m/M2200 or a 1050 ti MXM A if you can find one. With modding, I believe someone got a 1070 to work, but it was an extreme mod

It looks standard enough to fit without too much modding, albeit core is off center, would probably work better than a Clevo 1080 and require less modding a 980DT heatsink

That link is for the 16L13 MSI 1080 (may also work in the GT83VR).

The picture above your post is for the GT73VR / GT75VR / GT75 Titan GTX 1080 (Note that the GT75 has a different vbios for 6 core cpu's for some reason, and using a 4 core older vbios will cause a black screen or something apparently; e.g. if you try a GT73VR or GT75VR 1080 in a GT75 Titan without force flashing the 6 core vbios, afaik).

Hey Guys! I just successfully upgraded M4800 with WX 4150. Theoretically this card is as good as GTX 660 desktop, and between 965M gen1 and 965M gen2. This GPU is an excellent choice compared to the horrible price of 965M (WX 4150 is only about $200).
However pay attention that the original heatsink doesn't fit the card perfectly, you need to put a copper shim (I tried a 1mm thick one which works well) between the heat sink and the GPU.

BTW anyone tried upgrade for M6600 which is better than Firepro M6100? Some threads show that the Bios cannot recognize Maxwell. How about Pascal? Or maybe any AMD cards such as RX 480/RX 580/WX7100?

Actually not yet. I just registered for this website.

You can find the information of WX 4150 on Notebookreview website.

I upgraded last week and played PUBG with it smoothly. (Distance, texture, aa set as ultra, others very low), between 40 and 80 fps.

The card can be purchased on ebay, just search WX 4150 and you can find many options.

If someone can provide a 460M VBIOS, you could try flashing and overclocking, at risk of bricking the GPU

LOL I am afraid of it, since the heatsink is not perfect for it. Even with a copper shim I still feel due to 2 layers of silicon paste the heat emission is not as good as the original one.
I don't think Polaris is surprising for M4800, since people tried Maxwell in M6800 successfully, they are both Haswell laptops. If some one succeeded in M4600 that would be quite astonishing.
I am kind of busy the following months. If I have time I will try to move it to my M6600. If it works I can predict that RX 480/580/WX7100 also work in M6600, which means it can be transformed to a decent VR ready laptop. Anyway if anyone else can try it and tell us I would be rather happy

What are the temps like at full load?
I doubt the M6660 would, as modern cards require a UEFI BIOS and eDP
The M6800 and AW 17 R1 support Polaris/Pascal so it isn't too suprising that the M4800 does, do you perhaps have an eDP screen? That could be why, as that seems to be a requirement for new MXM GPU's

My motherboard type is G2, which uses the eDP screen connector. But I have also read someone in China succeeded in G1 motherboard, which uses LVSD screen. This is quite interesting.

My GPU automatically slow down while the temperature reaches 90 C, and the computer will shutdown at 95 C. This frequently happens before I add the copper shim. After the copper shim it performs stably, so I assume the temp is always less than 90 C

Parts are still arriving, so I can't confirm what works with what, but I am going to be using just regular unbuffered non ECC RAM, as that worked with my X5660 in my T3500. As for bottlenecking, all I have to say is that it doesn't bottleneck a 1080 (non ti) from watching the only video I could find on a 8700/6700K comparison. I'll try to keep you updated on it

Well, X5660 worked with non ECC memory out of box, and the T3600 has support for non ECC modules out of box according to it's tech sheet, so I'm going to assume it's bad ram moduels

Hey there all. Don't know what the format to get on the list is, but I have a M6600 with the 2520 i5, and it has a FirePro M6100 (shows as Radeon 8950) installed on Windows 7, and runs perfectly. Pretty stout upgrade for the machine too, compared to the model-relevant Quadros. Runs Destiny 2, ARK, WoW, Skyrim HD version without a hitch.

That's not really an upgrade, it was an option offered at launch IIRC, but that 8950M fits literally all laptops I and others have tested so far (M17X R2 M18X R2 AW 17 R1 P377SM-A M6600 M6700 M6800 and probably lots others)
It's about a 860M or K4100M level from checking benchmarks, and is above the MX150.
I would recommend an i7 2620QM or any i7 2xxx QM model, theyre very cheap now a days

Yeah, m6100 is the best choice for m6600 as it is quite cheap compared with other applicable gpus like gtx 680m. Also, there is no confirmed success for any Maxwell, pascal or Polaris frame in m?600 series. Some people succeeded in m290x or 8970m, however not guaranteed. Currently m6100, which is clearly supported in A15 BIOS, is no denying the best choice

Thankfully in M series there is another playable port: Expresscard. 1066OC can be driven with 220W laptop power adapter, usually wx 4150 is enough, any time when you need more, just bring a card and an extra laptop adapter. Due to the bandwidth the performance seems to be 30% less than the Desktop 1066, similar to the Max Q version

ExpressCard runs at a 2.0 X1 speed compared to a MPCIE 3.0x1, and then you have the stutter and lag that comes along with it, and I use my ExpressCard slot for a USB 3.0 anyways. If I needed more than a M6100, I would buy a new MXM GPU or just sell it and buy a M6700/M6800, or even a newer machine.

I was thinking it was the MSI 1080, which does have an SLI connector, and the 1070's odd form factor, but has a flipped GPU core
