Couple of hours to spend for 2510p. Ricoh webcam.
On USB docking port webcam are not working. Unknown device. Why ? Maybe I must pin-43 ( docking connector ) to connect to + or GND.
This docking port are 1 to 4 USB HUB.

On the right side USB port cam are working.
If I go on this way - one USB port down :-(.

If I can introduce a little USB HUB inside ?

Two years ago I install inside on eeePc One usb hub and two usb sticks :).

Exist somebody who have docking device for this little NB ? To late. Now I know pin 43 must be on ground.

I rich maximum limit for attachments.

    After one hour :
    - Make a test with usb hub on 33 and 34 pin of docking connector and the same - Unknown device !
    - Turn on 2510p with pin 43 to GND - rear led from network are not lit but connection are ok.

After couple of minutes I decided :
I wait for somebody " nando4 " :) to make another bios for unlocking USB ports. If possible.
Left USB port I turn off and wire D+ & D- use for webcam. I hope insert cam on LCD don`t make big problem.
Like I say right antenna from WWAN disapear.
3.3V and GND I have inside LCD. I must only two wires to mount.

@e&i - can you post CrystalDiskMark result of the Vertex 2 in your ebay sata-to-pata caddy? The Vertex 2 uses a SF1200 chip, so I'd expect 4KB reads to be in the 25-30MB/s range. This is faster than the fastest Indilinx results we've seen so far.

Also, did you get the "Fenvi" branded ebay 9.5mm sata-to-pata caddy with the swappable faceplate? If so, can you post pictures of it mounted in the 2510P?

Great work. A webcam for a 2510P is certainly a desirable mod. I'll do some research to see if we can figure out how the bios is clobbering the USB ports. Hopefully can unlock them so the internal docking USB pins can be used instead of internally wiring the external USB port.

Sry - No CrystalDiskMark on linux ..

I think i have the "normal" ebay one from here.

Can you post link to the Fenvi one? I also thinking about putting the old faceplate from the dvd on it - but that is not so easy.

Are there any experience about Trim command? Does auto-trim work with this adaptor? (i think not)

based on rr3636's investigation, trim does work with the ebay caddy. Here is the "Fenvi" ebay 9.5mm sata-to-pata caddy. Can see it has a swappable faceplate.

Problem with cable extension for cam are shielded wire.
    I try 30cm with non-shielded cable and " Unknown device " !
When I conect the wire to left USB port without mounting camera this port don`t work. I try with a little usb stick.

WAIT !!! Maybe this is the same problem with conecting to 33 / 34 pin of docking station  When I make a test I have the same 30cm wire.

    Back to open 2510p ;)

!!! Installing cam on 10cm wire non-shielded on 33 / 34 pin of docking connector are WORKING without puting to ground pin 43.
Now I must search where I found shielded cable but werry thin.

I asked for autotrim - but I think this is not possible. (rr3636 did only manual trim testing). But no problem, Linux has a wipe.sh for that ;)

But i don't know if i should use the ssd furthermore, because i have some strange problems with it: Sometimes my HP won't boot (stucks at Bios with both HDD Leds on but not going on.) and sometimes when I resume from Standby (stucks with both HDD LEDs on.).
Did anyone have this problems before? Is there a solution? I don't know if the problem is the Vertex2 or the Caddy ... mhh. :(

Or is this the famous 30 sec. bios hang? But ebay caddys are not affected normally.

After waiting 30 Seconds it says that the harddrive is not a system drive or something like that. After reboot it boots fine.. :/

Can someone tell me how the 30 Seconds hang does look like? Like I described my problem or does it have other behaviour?

I'm new here, but I already have a question.
I use Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick as the operating system, which works great.
Only with the track point I have massive problems. It is totally slow.

can someone give a tip here?

@ mike60 I have the same card installed .. The card works just great compared to the broadcom ...

Welcome aboard. I too had a slow touchstyk with a default Ubuntu installation which was corrected with:

    Code:
    xset mouse 25/10 2.5
Consider posting any other mods you may have if you wish to be included on the first post as an example. Appears you are using the modded_bios and 6200AGN.wifi.

Hey guys I need help on installing the network interface drivers for BackTrack 4 R2 Kernel 2.6.35.8 (I thought this would have the drivers already). When I open the network interfaces it only shows the loopback interface and nothing else. Here are the network cards on my 2510p:
    Broadcom 4321AG
    Intel 82566MM

    Thanks for your help!

I don't know if my caddy was broken or why this problem exists, but i ordered a newmodus caddy - i thought long time about it, because its very expensive compared to the chinese caddys. (about 60 $ for me incl. shipping for newmodus, 25 $ incl. for chinese.)

Don't know yet if this desicision is good, but will report back when fedex delivers it to me.

Also there is a 5% Coupon for newmodeus: FB072808 (Found it here)

    Nando4 or anyone else:

Can you post details or screenshots on what settings I should set my 2510P to in Throttlestop and Setfsb for overclocking? My processor is the U7600 1.2 dual core and I am using the latest F.O.F modded bios. Without using Throttlestop, I have been able to overclock in to 1.4 GHZ in setfsb by moving to top slider to 271 and the bottom one to 409 BUT I would like to go go to 1.5 or 1.6 GHZ.
What settings do I need to use in Throttlestop so that I can overclock it to a higher setting? Also, after configuring Throttlestop what settings do I use in Setfsb?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me with this.

Refreshed the 2510P Performance Toolkit 1a which you are welcome to try. It does most of the hard integration work for you. The default parameter for my U7600 being [email protected] (AC, dualIDA) and [email protected] (DC). The DC overclock being the highest stable point at the lowest voltage which provides battery life improvements.

It should take 5 mins to install, setup and enjoy :) It automatically activates after a resume-from-standby/hibernate as well.

    Nando4,

Unfortunately that performance toolkit is not working for me. I followed the instructions exactly like it says and as soon as I boot into windows 7 I get a popup message that says "You are about to be logged off" "Windows will shut down in 1 minute"
While that is happening I get (2) separate popup windows wanting me to grant access to setfsb and Throttlestop which I click "yes" on both on them. Also, at the same time in my taskbar I can see where the batch file is running from where I placed a shortcut in my startup folder. However, Windows shuts down on me after that 1 minute.
In my power options I am using the High Performance option. I've also tried this using balanced but it still shuts down within 1 minute. Lastly, it doesn't make a difference if I am running on AC or DC power because either way Windows shuts down within the 1 minute.

Here are my specs again in case you need them.

HP 2510P with a Intel U7600 Dual Core 1.2 GHZ
    2GB stock memory
    F.OF (267) modded bios
    (factory/stock) 120GB Toshiba MK1214GAH hard drive
    Windows 7 Ultimate

Can you PLEASE help? I am really wanting to overclock this laptop. Thanks

    Nando4,

In case this helps you figure out what is causing the performance kit to shut down Windows within 1 minute, below is a link to a scrrenshot of what that batch file shows it doing at startup. Apparently something in there isn't working properely because it tells the computer to reboot in 60 seconds. Also, some files aren't running or being installed/copied.

    Take a look:

    Nando4,

Thank you SO very much for getting that fixed for me. It shows I'm running at 1.45 GHZ. Is that as stable as I'm going to be able to go?

Also, I had one final question but after I installed Bar-Edit I followed the instructions, (write + save) and also checked the apply at startup. However, about 5 minutes into Windows, I would get a blue screen of death and when I unchecked the option in BarEdit to apply at startup everything seems to be working ok?

[email protected] (1.6Ghz) runs fine on my U7600 and I'd guestimate would run fine on yours as well. Just ensure that in Throttlestop you have a x10 multiplier selected, then right click white space and select "Start Dual lIDA". Choose "Save" to save those parameters in Profile 1. Profile 4 is set to run 160x9 (1.44Ghz) at 0.85V when switching to DC. Could set it to run at 160x8 (1.28Ghz) instead if not stable at level.

Not sure why you're gettig some baredit BSOD issues. No need to do anything there since the Performance Kit will automatically run the hdd_set.bat, using baredit to set 66Mhz slave channel timings.

Thanks. I will give those settings a try tomorrow because right now I'm started to get frustarted that I am now getting the Frozen PLL issue when I'm only connected to AC power.

I read the several posts about this same issue here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-business-class-notebooks/352887-2510p-owners-lounge-36.html

What is happening is as soon as I boot with the AC power connector, I get the frozen PLL message instantly. I've rebooted repeatedly and it doesn't help or change anything. I've also tried to manually change it via setfsb after I get the error but it won't let me change or set the FSB. What is also strange is this problem makes my built in Wireless LAN connection unavailable so I can't even connect to the internet.

This is frustrating! Any suggestions now on how to fix this?

I get NO frozen PLL ever. However, that may be because I use the grub2 bootloader overclock to 160Mhz FSB even before Win7 has loaded. Then I'm using quiet_fan's fan_40pct dsdt override. So there's some suggestions on how to fix the problem. The grub2 setup requiring Linux skills, which I take some users wouldn't have or use.

wifi not working when rebooting in overclocked state

As to the wifi, yes, I have noticed that. The reason being when you do overclock, the overclock is maintained during a warm boot. The overclocked state seems to causes the wifi to not get detected during bios bootup. You can confim this by seeing the BLUE wifi LED isn't on during bootup.

The workaround there would be either:

    - do a cold boot
    - there's a USB detection boot delay parameter that may help too.

If neither gives you success and you want to have a working wifi on *every* warm boot, then use DIY ViDock's Setup 1.x anti-whitelisting feature to restore the wifi port. Just 'save' the port in the Intel Ports->Save option upon a successful detection during bootup, then set the startup.bat to contain:

    Code:
    call iport restore
    call grub4dos w7
With such a setup you'd see the Win7 initial bootloader screen twice. Firstly you'd select the DIY ViDock Setup 1.x bootitem, followed by "Automated startup via startup.bat", let it do it's thing for 2 seconds, then select the Win7 bootitem to chainload into Win7 with a working wifi. The Setup 1.x software takes 5 minutes to setup and provides a handy DOS environment if you need it.

Please advise on how you go so I can update the documentation with workarounds necessary.

Man you really know your stuff when it comes to this and I really appreciate all of your help thus far. Ok I installed the dsdt quiet fan to 40.

The DiYViDock looks like a pain in the to deal with so I was wondering since you mentioned this "- there's a USB detection boot delay parameter that may help too." How could I try that option to try and fix the wifi from not working?

Just tried the F9/F10/F12 and USB Detection delay options in the bios to see if they the wifi to work after warm booting in an overclocked state. Unfortunately not. So need a new workaround. I created 2510P Performance Toolkit 1.0c adding a new instruction:

    7. Place a shortcut to c:\faster\2510P-restart.bat on your desktop. Use this to restart your system. This will downclock your system to the 133Mhz default FSB, then restart your system. Restarting without this will otherwise see you lose your wifi.

I haven't tried the .C version of the performance toolkit yet because I have a question first. What can I do to fix the frozen PLL? My system was shutdown/turned off last night and as soon as I boot into Windows it gives me the frozen PLL error every time now.

Will the .C version fix this? Even though I have read the posts about frozen PLL I still don't quite understand what is causing it.

nando4, do you know if linux has also the "slave PATA 30MB/s sequential write speed" problem, or is this Windows only?

Can you maybe provide for those people, who have that problem, a F.0A with your modifications? (Win7 SLIC 2.1, no whitelist, dualIDA, fan_40pct) (fan_40pct is the most important one, i think).
Dont't know if this is possible, but I think it would help some people.

(I actually don't know if I do need it, because i am trying to find out, if linux is affected of the 30 mb/s thing.)

You can also update my entry in your table - I got the newmodus now.

Edit: Okay, for me it seems that Linux (Ubuntu 10.10) has not this problem. Look at this:
    Code:
    [ 4.948967] ata1: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x1f0 ctl 0x3f6 bmdma 0x2120 irq 14
    [ 4.948972] ata2: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x170 ctl 0x376 bmdma 0x2128 irq 15
    [ 5.140538] ata1.01: ATA-8: OCZ-VERTEX2, 1.25, max UDMA/133
    [ 5.180429] ata1.01: configured for UDMA/100

    UDMA/100 = UDMA 5

    Some Ubuntu Benchmark:

Edit2: Autotrim does also not work with newmodus Caddy (but it was not confirmed that auto (not manual!) trim does work with china caddy), you can't boot Ubuntu with discard option.

Edit3: Manual Trim with wiper.sh works with newmodus Caddy.

Edit4: @nando my 1.8 bay is empty, no more 80 gb.

Edit5: Manual Trim with wiper.sh does not work with newmodus Caddy I found out with http://andyduffell.com/techblog/?p=852 :/

I installed the .C performance toolkit and that did NOT fix the problem. I am still getting the frozen PLL error message. What can I do to fix this???

miniPCI SSD requires sata pins on the mPCIe slot of which neither the WWAN nor the wifi slot on the 2510P provides. In fact, very few notebooks do though quite a few netbooks do. Supposedly new releases of notebooks will have this following in the MacBookAir 11.6"'s lead.

If want a SSD can get one either via the 1.8" or optical drive bays. See first post.

The software can do nothing when the PLL is frozen. Try the workaround: do a quick standby/resume to unfreeze the PLL. The resume-faster.vbs script will once again automatically engage overclocking which will be successful if the PLL is no longer frozen.

    Nando4,

I used the workaround and rebooted using the 2510p-restart.bat that does not fix it. I still get the Frozen PLL error and also my wifi quits workings as well. I've tried it several times but it doesn't work. Do you have any other ideas on how to fix it?

Reiterating then. For wifi to work after a reboot use the .C package's 2510P-restart.bat as follows. Confirmed works on my 2510P.

    7. Place a shortcut to c:\faster\2510P-restart.bat on your desktop. Use this to restart your system. This will downclock your system to the 133Mhz default FSB, then restart your system. Restarting without this will otherwise see you lose your wifi.

For the frozen PLL, the workaround is a standby (not hibernate) followed by a resume. If no joy, consider a 200Mhz_bclk or FSLx PLL pinmod hardware mod overclock instead.

    Nando4,

Ok, I finally got the PLL unfrozen and everything when overclocked seems to be working fine. Thanks very much for your help!

    Last question:
I had a 80GB Samsung hard drive that came with this machine but recently died so HP replaced it with a 4200RPM 120GB Toshiba MK1214GAH. I've noticed this hard drive is considerably nosier whereas my Samsung was whisper quiet. Do you happen to know of anyway that I can make this hard drive quiet? Will some sort of software help?

Glad the overclocking works. Thank you for your input as well - it's helped improve the 2510P Performance Toolkit. To what level were you able to overclock your U7600 2510P system on AC?

To quieten down your Toshiba ZIF HDD's seek noise try '\faster\hdparm\hdparm -M 128 /dev/sda'. Add that commandline to '\faster\hdd_set.bat' to automatically do that at startup or resume-from-standby/hibernate.

If APM doesn't quieten things down then consider asking HP for a replacement Samsung drive which you note was quieter. I can confirm my MK8025GAL does make random clicking noises.

Another solution is to go a noiseless SSD instead, gaining significant performance improvements as well. Some examples on the first post. ZIF SSDs are now affordable. See http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...-1-8-zif-pata-ssds-available.html#post6861746 .

On AC power I am able to run stable at 1.6 GHZ
ON DC power, after about 15 or 20 minutes I get a blue screen of death that says it is a hardware error, so I am going to have to downclock it I suppose.

What do I need to change to automatically have it downclock? What settings do you recommend?

Also, regarding your suggestion regarding putting the commandline in the hdd_set. to quiet my hard drive, does it matter where I place that command in the script?

To get a lower speed DC (0.85V) entry, click "Turn Off" in Throttlestop's systray, then decrease the Profile 4 (DC) multiplier by 1. Ensure you set min CPU to 100% as shown in step 5 here. Then "Turn On" Throttlestop and pull the AC power, testing DC stability with something like Everest's System Stability Test.

Can put an additional hdparm entry in the :AC or : DC, or both sections in \faster\hdd_set.

Not sure on the F3507G. A MC8781 has GPS functionality and is like US$35-delivered on ebay. The Sierra Watcher software used with it making it one of the easiest WWAN modules to use.

Hi Everyone. I have found this thread to be invaluable as I have mantained my 2510p for work. Now since it is out of warranty and I have a new work machine I can start "experimenting".
What I need help with is 2 things:
    1. What is the performance delta between W7 and 32Bit XP? Is this just measurable or orders of magnatude.
    2. Does the modified BIOS allow for removing a forgotten BIOS password?

I am considering recomissioning the machine to be shared by my 3 kids and wife as mostly an internet terminal for email/Netflix and some light MS Office and am weighing just adding their accounts to the 32Bit XP vs renewing my TechNet subscription, W7 and a SD drive.

    [email protected]/2G/Stock MK8009GAH

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

    Eric

    Erasing a bios password

I worked with a user here finding all the available public tools could not erase the bios set password. Neither does flashing a stock or modded bios. So appears there are no publicly available backdoor tools to erase the bios password.

Another workaround? Consider acquiring a US$35-delivered USB SPI eeprom burner and copy an unprotected 2510P bios over your existing one. You'll need to get access to another 2510P without a bios password. The BIOS eeprom can be easily removed from the 1.8" drive bay. Worth uploading a copy here so others can have access to an unprotected bios image if need to do the same.

Once installed just use HP DMIFIT utilities to repopulate the serial and model details to match the system stickers.

Or another solution. Maybe a 2510P owner has the tools to make an unprotected bios eeprom for you and could just send it to you for a small fee?

    Win7 versus XP

I now run Win7 almost exclusively, preferring it's improved interface, self-updates and speed. <strike>Aero could be sluggish on the X3100 graphics at stock speeds but runs great if overclock the system.</strike> (not according to here). A SSD will greatly improve system response as well. Various different ways of adding one are on the first post.

The performance mods in this thread means your 2510P is still quite capable even when using Win7. It's difficult to find any other ultraportable to deliver so much for so such a low s/h price.. for those that know anyway :)

    From here a 2510P versus 2540P comparison:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...52887-2510p-owners-lounge-53.html#post6923184 asked:

The PhotofastV3 uses a Sunplus sata-to-pata bridge chip. In some brief conversion I had with Photofast they explained that incompatibilty issues with that bridge chip saw them move to the native EWS720 PATA. I have experienced any such problems as you describe with the Jmicron or Marvell sata-to-pata bridged ZIF SSDs, or the EWS720 native PATA ones I've tested on my 2510P.

Suggestion would be ask Photofast for a V4 unit OR offload the V3 on ebay, replacing it with another unit from http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...-1-8-zif-pata-ssds-available.html#post6861746 . The first post of this thread has other confirmed working SSD solutions.

Consider also installing the 2510P Performance Toolkit if need more performance.

I'm running Win 7 with no OC or fan mods, Aero interface not sluggish for me at all on mine.

Nando how do you recommend contacting Photofast about possible drive replacement? Their website is less than friendly- no support links just an unused public forum and a Japanese phone number.

I got my 2510P+Win7/64 + K3VLAR-E ZIF SSD idle power down < 6W with wifi on, LCD brightness set to 3-bars. See
    INFO: Extending Battery Life
. Tweak the X3100 graphics, 4965AGN driver, network card, soundcard, and fan to improve battery life. I believe the 2710P has a brighter LCD panel so it could add more power consumption.

Hi everyone I have owned the 2510p for a few years now and it still does everything I want as its a great little notebook! This is a great thread and thanks to the knowledge here I have fixed the fan added biggest battery and can over clock the processor :)

The only thing is that my headphone socket lost the earth and doesn't plug in properly therefore I was wondering if anything could be done to fix it?
