Yes I see that but you never know ,My printed out cart says 9300 but the order says 9400. maybe they ran out of the 9300m and have upped the ante. Or maybe they will put it in because that is what printed out on their order. Will just have to see when it arrives. Either way will be ok. Jerry

Just to clarify, the 9400M is a chipset; it is an NVIDIA chipset with an integrated GPU that shares its memory with the system RAM (a la new unibody MacBook). The 9300M GS is a dedicated card using GDDR3 and the system chipset will be the Intel PM45.

PolarFrog, just to confirm, do you have an on screen volume level display when using the multimedia volume control bar? What about the Fn keys to change the brightness, do you have any on screen notification?

I can't seem to find a compatible QuickSet or ControlPoint to enable these features; maybe there is no way?

Ok, I understand now, the 9300 has 256mb of graphics and the 9400m uses the systems memory for the graphics. Thanks

Also would be wonderfull to see how bad (good :)) the screen flex is. Is it troublesome? How about keyboard and palmrest spots, do they bend significantly?

    Hi everyone,

Just to answer a couple of quick questions.

The palm rest area is actually very solid (something I wasn't expecting) when the laptop is on a table. Applying reasonable pressure on it with my thumb doesn't cause any bend at all.

As for flex on the screen; here's what Dell did. On their Lattitude-E series, they used some sort of metal structure (magnesium allow?); which results in a thin yet very solid build. I have one of those at work, and you do not get any bend whatsoever. On top of that, you get a nice "metal" feel when touching it.
On the Vostro series however, it is not like that; probably due to its pricing, it is plastic; and alone, this will definitely have flex. However, Dell added a layer of "glossy plastic" (on the lid and around) which is for cosmetic purposes, but also reinforces the lid plastic. Therefore, I have to admit that the screen has no flex on the sides and only a little flex at the epicenter of the screen.

As for my defective keyboard. Dell offered to send me a new laptop. I will be using this one until the new one arrives, and will ship the old one back. :)

I tried Mass Effect on 1280x800 on medium settings and it chugged pretty bad.
