Did you try the Vista drivers? That should work.

There is a 20% sale at Dell Outlet. I priced a well-loaded E4200 for $620 delivered. Who needs netbooks when you can have a sexy blue E4200! I love America!

I think I did and it didn't work. But how would do that? And basically has anybody done it?

You should try the driver CD and install directly. If it gives you a message about unsupported OS, try running the executable file in compatibility mode for Vista or XP. You need to give us more details on the hardware that is giving you trouble.

I would recommend that you wait for the Windows 7 RC to be released on May 5th. You should stick to Vista otherwise.

The Dell-shipped XP CD does include the appropriate drivers to install in AHCI mode without any extra effort.

Waiting on my refurb E4200 to come. $630 shipped with the SU9400, 1gb RAM, 64gb Ultra, 6 cell battery, XP Pro/Vista downgrade & eSATA DVD Burner. Happy to get rid of my netbook.

Thinking of picking up this 32gb Super Talent SSD to expand the storage a bit. Would buy it in the bundle with the external DVD player and an extra $15 off. Selling the DVD player for at least $50 and using MS Cashback will get the actual cost down to under $60 and change. Picked up another gig of RAM for $10. Actually it was 2 gigs for $10. So I'll sell the other gig and make that a touch cheaper.

Jane, the RC is meant to be public, but who knows what MS will do in the end.

dbpaddler, congrats! Isn't that the best deal? I bet you will find your memory will be 2GB, that's been the pattern with Dell, they seem to add this one extra gig every time they send a refurb out. Let us know. In my opinion, it would have been better to spend the $60 on the 128GB mobility drive (and it IS possible to get that config under $700 on the outlet). It would certainly be less hassle (all that swapping and selling!) and get you more space even if you had to put a little extra money in. You will have to free up the PCIe slot for that drive, assuming it works, of course (though it should). No one here has tried it yet.

Just received a refurbished E4200 from Dell Outlet. I notice in some reviews they mention a leather portfolio shipped in the box. I don't have this in the box. Is this included with new units or refurnished units? Thanks.

BTW, the fan does come on a lot and is louder than I expected. :(.

Thanks, I sure hope it is public as Windows 7 rocks!
