Sorry to hear about your other problems, but don't know that it's fair for you to be peeved about receiving more than you paid for! :D That being said, having heard about extra memory sometimes appearing unexpectedly, I waited until I received my unit before ordering an additional 2GB stick.

As I posted earlier, my case was a little worse for wear -- but my DVD burner looked brand spanking new, and based on the pics someone posted elsewhere, I have a Samsung display panel in my unit which is supposed to be rarer and better so I guess it kinda evens out. BTW, I am satisfied with my display.

I just got a Media Bay but no drive, I didn't care since I have a USB burner...I don't even remember what was in the original order. the E/Bay was new though.

The Dell sleeve is actually pretty nice (if simple, it holds the computer + 2 business cards, no extra space or padding). I'd wait for a good coupon and then buy it.

Yeah, I don't really need that security stuff. However, I have an E6400 with Windows 7 that installed the Broadcom USH drivers correctly. I just forgot how I did that, or if Windows 7 found the drivers automatically.

my battery was fully charged and showed it on the power meter when I opened the properties. Then when I'd disconnect the AC it would shut off. Played with the battery and it then seemed to stay on. Started walking around with it and then it happened again. Now it seems okay, and I'll see how it goes throughout the day.

Still have to call Dell anyway since my DVD burner wasn't in there. I was only peeved about the memory because I didn't know there was a history of extra being in there, and I would've waited to order. Picked up the Mac 2gb pack for $10 on ebay so not terribly upset. I'll flip it. Just annoyed on top of the other issues.

I can say, I can't believe I was happy with my Samsung netbook before this. And it makes my old Lenovo V200 look big and dumpy. Between selling my Samsung and the V100 I'll come out ahead of the game with this.

For people looking at cases, check out the zeroshock cases. They do have a zippered outer pocket that should fit the slim ac adapter nicely. There's slight convolution to the inner foam, and it has some rigidity to it so it's well protected in a drop situation, but it's still a pretty slim case overall. And of course there's a plethora of neoprene cases from China (dealextreme.com and focalprice.com) for under $10. You can find them on ebay too.

Also check out Marshalls and TJ Maxx as they've had a few of the Belkin Neoprene ones which are nice, but I'm not sure they have small enough ones for the E4200. Who wants more bulk then they need.

    Samsung 64GBMobility (MLC) benchmark

I did the Crystal Mark test on the 64GB drive. Numbers are in line with the specs, I think. This is done in Windows 7. See attached jpeg.

Yeah, those numbers are on par with 2nd Gen Samsung MLC standards. They aren't stellar though. While I picked up the 64GB SLC (still haven't received it yet), the Intel X18M is out and I am VERY tempted to pick it up. I would prefer if it hits the 160GB capacity first. The sad thing is that you cannot realize the full potential of any of these ultra-fast drives because the low-power chipsets and CPUs hold them back.

The Intel should still double the performance of the IO above though.

dbp: I think your battery has a loose connection with the chassis. You can test this hypothesis easily by fiddling with it while not connected to power and seeing if it just shuts off.

This time it worked. I had to install the Control Point Security drivers, a 110 MB download. Now the USH is happy.

Hi. Please recommend a lightweight E4200 case and RAM upgrade recommendation. Mine is 1GB DDR3, I guess. I am planning to install Windows 7 x64. TIA

+1 on Zeroshock cases. I have an ultraslim one with no external pockets. It is zippered and just barely encloses the E4200 with 6 cell battery. I've used it for years, first with my Dell X1 then Toshiba Portege R500 and now will be using for the E4200. It is lined with memory foam.

As for the question about memory, I put in a stick of Crucial 2GB ram for 3GB total. Was reasonably priced at Newegg, worth it over a 1GB stick to me. Jumping up to a 4GB stick will cost an arm and a leg and I opted not to do this! (I can't take advantage of most of it anyway running 32 bit XP)
