Dell Latitude E6500 Review With Pictures (Updated Constantly)

The tech specs listed on Dell's pages for the two models reveals that the E6400 weights in at almost a full pound less than the E6500, and an inch less as well. The shocking thing is that the E6500 is only a mere $20 (USD) more than the E6400, which makes me lean more towards the E6500. The E6400 is still more portable though... ooohhh! tough choices indeed!

I'll check that out again next time I try it. I think it was either 4.2 or 4.7.

I'll make sure to run 3DMark 06 next time I get a chance to play with it.

We (or he ) got the six-cell battery. I don't think that I'll be able to weigh it, though.

BTW, if you search for "E6500 review" on Google, my review is the third on the list, and if you search for "Dell Latitude E6500 review", mine's fourth down! I'm sure that I can expect a lot of views on this .

 

Very tough choice! Especially since I don't trust Dell's numbers. As you can read in the E6400 review on this site, that tested 14 inch model already had the same weight that Dell claims for the larger model! So I don't trust the numbers anymore, I'd love if someone could actually weight a "living" real-life configured 15 inch model...

 

How much does your E6500 weigh? The E6400 is more like 5.1 pounds, compared to Dell's "4.3" pounds. ~.8 or more difference. Could we assume that the E6500 is 5.2 + ~.8 pounds, making it around 6?

 

Evelgest, it's impressive that your E6400 was received only 2 days after you ordered it. Dell's factories must not have been swamped with orders. I'm impressed.

 

Well, my order went in on 8/21 and my ship date is 9/22. BUT I think the backlog is for the laptops with 9 cell batteries. My rep says they have a huge backlog they are working thru. The people who order with 6 cell batteries seem to be getting theirs very quickly, but appearently most business ppl are ordering the 9 cell.

Why is it so hard for Dell to get somewhere in east Asia 9 cell batteries? This shortage lasts already too long.

 

Very nice review. I would like to hear your father's thoughts on the screen. If I bought this configuration for one of my parents, I would give much consideration to the resolution and might even end up falling back to the CCFL WXGA option. Is your father happy with the resolution? Have you so far needed to adjust the text DPI through the operating system or the font size through the browser to make reading texts more comfortable? If you did: how well did that work for you?

 

As far as both are identically spec'd, go portable. What would be the advantage of a WXGA+ on a 15" over 14"? None! Only bigger pixels! If you look closely, both share the same keyboard size, only the side speaker grilles are larger on the 15". Looks like all the rest for both laptop is identical (I check the 360deg view)! the 15" is just plain... bigger .

BUT a quick check on the 15" config page shows one big advantage. A 1920x1200 screen option. But AFAIK this is insane on a 15". It was on my 17" and I am only 35 and have good eyes lol.

So if you care for a WUXGA 1920x1200, go 6500. If not, stick to the portable advantage and stay 14".

But hey I did only a quickcheck. There may be other options for the 6500.
