Thanks for the review and continuous information posted on here. This got me interested in looking at a Dell to replace my old d600. I was about to try the lenovo t500, but then I could not stand the looks of the lenovo series. So far the e6500 has been very good except for some minor issues.

    Thanks for the review!

I just ordered an E6500 from the outlet with a 20% off coupon and hope it arrives without any of the problems I've seen mentioned.
It comeswith XP Pro installed and the optional Vista.

I was hoping to get some advice as to what I can do if the WiFi and Wlan are not working reliably.
So far, I've collected Touchpad driver info, and am now trying to find out which BIOS is considered the best for reliable Wlan and WiFi access, which is vital to me.
My current old lappy is rock solid in that regard.

I'd appreciate any pointers, so when the laptop arrives, I'm prepared to fix whatever needs fixing, since it sounds like Dell's support is not very helpful with many of the issues.

And one more question: if Dell diagnoses over the phone and decides an new part is needed, do they pay for the shipping.
The basic warranty states "mail-in" and the customer is responsible for shipping both ways, plus insurance, apparently.
I was hoping they'd send a pre-paid box if the laptop needs repair.

I'm sure I missed it somewhere, but where did you get the Outlet coupon? I plan on buying from a salesperson on the phone who was helpful, but would like to see if she can save me a few $$ more.
    Thanks!

Good luck! I think it runs out tomorrow, IIRC.

Go ahead and buy it if you want to be disappointed. My unit had the CD, Keyboard and touchpad all replaced during the first 90 days. I had to wipe out my entire drive due to the buggy Wave and DCP softwares. Worst yet; I posted a review on Dell which was never presented for others to see with details of the system and software issues. It is OK to have bugs in software and hardware, but to present the best light on the E6500 so Dell can sell more of these prototypes by keeping out damaging reviews on its web is simply mileading and destroy Dell's integrity as a company. I never had such problem with Dell in the past. The E6500 is not ready to be deployed in business. Dell has the best tech support, and it still does. But tech support can make drivers nor can it do quality control. This E6500 is the worst I have seen from Dell.

I've had my XPS 720 repaired numerous times, my uncle had his XPS M1530 repaired a few times, and guess what? My dad's E6500, which I based the review off of, has problems with the hard drive starting up correctly sometimes. Don't. Buy. A. Dell. Their systems are nice and the value is really good on most of them, but Dell's quality sucks.

I am going to order an E6500. Just don't know if I should choose it with the P8700 or P9600. Would it make a big difference to spend $100 more for the P9600?

The P8700 would be the best choice, i believe it's only $37 extra.

Well, I have been lurking around here the last few days, but I do own a Latitude E6500 and have been using it for almost 1 year now.
    Here are the Specs:
    Core 2 Duo P8700 (2.53ghz/3M L2)
    4GB DDR2-800 (2x2GB SODIMM)
    DVD+/-RW optical drive
    250gb 7200RPM Hard drive (Seagate)
    1440x900 LED backlit screen
    backlit Keyboard
    Nvidia Quadro NVS160M
    Fingerprint swipe

I am currently running windows 7 on it and it runs almost flawlessly, aside from that, upon initial install, I was able to find all of the drivers I needed.
