Just unpacked this e6410 to replace my old D410. I'm not an I T guy, so I'll be in here asking you guys silly questions from time to time.

What's the little button between the trackstick buttons?

All questions are welcome! Please NEVER hesitate to ask.

I made a nice layout explaining every buttons for the 2 mouses on the laptop (trackpad (alternative name: touchpad) and trackpoint)

    Thanks!
Never heard of "middle click", but googling it has offered me plenty to get me started.

BTW, I've seen talk on here of different SSD's getting shipped and mine arrived with the Samsung SSD.

Middle click never did much in previous version of Windows. Web browser use it as an auto scroll (click with the middle mouse button (press & let go), and move the mouse up or down and it scroll smoothly on a page.

In Windows 7, middle click has more meaning. If you middle click on a task bar item, it will open the program, and if it already run it will open a new instance of that item selected by the middle click (if the program doesn't support multiple instance, nothing will happen).

If you middle click on the thumbnail live preview of a program (Win7 only):

It will CLOSE the selected program/window.

What I noticed is that it's mostly Samsung, and those who that are not Samsung, uses the same controller of the SSD as the Samsung one (essentially it means is that its very close in performance).

I bought several refurbs from Dell's Outlet at a great price.

I always reinstall Windows from the get-go for a clean install without any Dell crapware.

I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on several machines and on each one

1.) They all hang at shut down
2.) The SD card reader isn't working even though I have installed the latest drivers from Dell.com

Anyone know anything about these problems?

Identical problem on multiple installs could suggest a process fault. Perhaps vary your installation on one machine to isolate the issue. Does a machine hang after installing Windows and no other drivers? Be sure you downloaded x64 drivers from Dell.com.

Check the Dell Control Point Software. If the battery life is set to maximum battery life it disables the optical drive and the sd card. Changing the battery life to portable will result in the SD card working fine. My Win 7 Pro 64 bit works fine and does not hang on shut down

Does anyone have any ideas why sometimes my E6410's trackpad will not work after the machine comes out of standby or hibernate mode?

Look for the E6400 backlit keyboard. It is the same part (someone checked near the start of this thread) and is easier to find.
