Hey all - so is everyone experiencing the mouse lag at start-up? And I guess maybe out of hibernation / standby as well? Does it go away? Any drive fix or something working for this issue? Thanks!

Thanks! I'll buy one when I have the extra cash.

I know this question wasn't directed at me, but I always use WXGA+ and Intel graphics on all of my laptops and I never had a problem. I have used discrete graphics and WXGA+ on systems before, and it's always been a nightmare with overheating and failed Nvidia chips. I'm sure the E6410 has probably resolved this but my trust in Dell/Nvidia has fallen and I always opt for Intel graphics now.

Thanks, jlacroix...that's what I needed to hear! I manage about 100 Dell latitudes at work, that are WXGA; but they are 5500's. I'd rather have cooler and functional any day than overhaeating issues. I have a monster desktop with a GTX 465 in it for gaming so my laptop will be primarily for work related tasks.

I have the E6410 with the upgraded screen and intel card for video.

It runs great at 1440x900, until I connect it to an external monitor through the VGA out or to my Projector.

I use the Dell MP3400 Projector for presentations, max resolution on my old Dell Latitude 830 was 1400x900 just fine. I've tried 3 projectors and 2 monitors now...the max resoultion I can get is 1152 x 864.

I ordered a DisplayPort to HDMI connector to try to see if that will work, but my projector doesnt have an HDMI connector. The only thing I could find was an HDMI to M1 Connector for my projector.

I'm wondering if its just a Window's 7 issue? Any comments, suggestions?

Hi, I've just got a new E6410 (think the rev. is A04), and am thinking about adding WWAN to it. I've opened the machine and verified that mine does have the WWAN slot and antennae ready.

My question is, do I have to get one of those Dell 5530/5540 cards to work, or can I get any mini-pci WWAN card I find on auction sites? (from Sierra, Huawei, etc.)
I recall reading some laptop vendors (Lenovo?) locking out other cards in the BIOS.

    Thanks~

Excuse this suggestion from a total novice, but I was having a similar problem when I was setting up my e6410 with a Dell Monitor in a docking station. Because I still needed the laptop keyboard available during setup (i didn't have my wireless mouse attached yet), I wasn't shutting the lid on my laptop...which turned out to be the problem. It wouldn't recognize the second screen setup until I closed the lid.
Well, you said you were desperate!

My solution was to buy an E6410 with the standard WXGA resolution.

From experience, I can state that the WXGA+ screen resolution created a number of external display issues, which came as a tremendous surprise since Intel integrated graphics are normally foolproof. The WXGA+ E6410 simply wouldn't connect to external displays at the correct resolution without erroneous error messages and fiddling with the graphics properties each and every time. It wasn't a Windows 7 issue, or even an Intel issue. It seems to have related directly to the hardware configuration. It isn't the first time that an upgraded display resolution has caused me problems. Needless to say, I'd advise against the WXGA+ display if you ever plan on using external displays.

With the WXGA display, the Intel graphics easily support 1080P external displays. You can use a WXGA E6410 with a variety of external displays of different aspect ratios and resolutions, and each and every one is recognized instantly. I can ever state that the base WXGA screen is viewable outdoors in direct sunlight.

Found one on the outlet that has everything I want except it has an I7-620M instead of the I5-520M. Probably way more than I need, but the price is definitely right as compared to ordering new. Does anyone had this CPU in their E6410, if so how hot do they run? I'm not really overly concerned with the small hit it would take in battery life, besides this one comes wiht a 9 cell battery. Heat is primary concern. It is in the "previously ordered new" category which is a definite plus to me.

Also really curious why the all the E4310's on the outlet come with 3yr NBD warranty and you can upgrade to Pro Care for under $100 as opposed to $208 for all the rest of the latitude line.

    Go to page 91..

There is a problem with the Dell nvidia driver.
    I have a WXGA+ screen resolution with the NVS3100M
I successfully connected to a Optima HD180 with the win7 nvidia generic driver and I used an DP to HDMI cable.

I realize the OP has already purchased his laptop, but others reading this thread should know that another option may be to get the Nvidia 3100M GPU. I have it and it seems to work well, seamlessly switching between the WXGA+ laptop display and my external 1680x1050 resolution when docked. Even the position of the desktop icons and desktop gadgets are remembered separately for each resolution. I'm pleased with this aspect of the drivers/E-port+, as it has never worked perfectly for me with previous laptop setups.

Read back in this thread; there are some comments about this. The i7 does run warm to very warm on the laptop bottom. The bottom is all metal and seems to be part of the cooling system design, so it makes a nice lap warmer. Not so good in the summer, but I'm looking forward to keeping comfy in the winter. I've never tried an i5 but suspect it would be cooler. If I had it to do over again I would probably pick an i5 instead of the i7.
