Also check if you have the latest (16th Aug 10) IDT audio driver.

Updated the to bios a05 and the new update for DCP. It reduced the audio stuttering by a large margin but its still present, just not so frequent.

According to dcplat, after the bios and dcp software update, there is still some audio hiccups once in a blue moon.
Thx john, i'll try updating the idt sound driver, seems that mine is dated august.

This is the first time i've bought a dell machine which had this annoying problem. I guess they didnt really tested and patched the new latitude series coz i use to own a D630 and it was perfect out of the box.

The E6410 is far less buggy than the E6400 was at the same point in its career.

I've not yet discovered any stuttering on my E6410 but, as you will see from the E6400 latency thread, the problems can be caused by different bits of hardware. I've got Intel graphics and wireless. The SATA mode is AHCI and I don't have the Intel matrix storage software installed.

Well i've patched my system with the latest idt audio driver. I'll see how it goes.

I have the matrix storage software installed and my sata mode is the intel rapid storage system.

Im abit reluctant to switch to achi for the moment since i just set up my machine and if im not mistaken, if i changed the sata mode, my OS wont be able to boot up and i'll have to reinstall everything again.

ok, im still getting the stuttering problem. I think i'll just do a factory recovery and start from scratch to eliminate the prob.

The matrix storage software was previously a source of stuttering: It periodically goes round checking for devices and changes.

You can switch from IRRT to AHCI by following the instructions in this thread (with this as background reading). However, if you have tweaked a Dell factory installation then no problem with switching: The drivers for all the SATA modes are pre-installed.

I plan to buy the 6410 and I'm having some troubles deciding about the GPU.
It'll be used for programming (java, sql) and of course web surfing.
I don't plan to use it for games or image processing.
From what i understand the intel graphics will give me about 20% more battery time which is quite important to me, so I'm thinking of getting it.
on the other hand, the price difference is pretty tiny and the Nvidia GPU gives better screen resolution (btw, isn't it a bit too much for a 14.1 inch screen?).

    any thoughts?

What better resolution? I have 1440 x 900 with Intel GPU. Have you found something higher that isn't listed in the on-line specs. For me (and my eyes aren't that good) 1440 x 900 is an excellent balance between screen real estate and portability.

My position is that if you don't need 3D graphics then stick with Intel: Less heat, less fan noise and better battery run time. nVidia may have improved their act, but Intel still wins in these aspects.

The intel GPU is not avilable with the higher resolution where I live.
so it's either the intel with 1280X800 or the Nvidia with 1440X900

I got the Nvidia graphics but was too cheap to get the screen, and IMO 1280x800 is plenty for things like web browsing, word, and outlook.
