Hello fellow E6410 owners. I've recently purchased two of these laptops, both through the Dell Outlet. I have the Dell docking station and it's great.

    Specs 1:
    i5-520
    4GB memory
    250gb 7200rpm drive
    1280x800 screen
    Dell 6200 wireless
    Win 7 Pro 64-bit

    Specs 2:
    i5-540
    4GB memory
    250gb memory
    1440x900 screen
    Intel N wireless
    Win 7 Pro 64-bit

I'm having issues with my second E6410. No matter what I try it's having issues with USB devices specifically USB keyboard and mouse.

Whether they are connected to the laptop directly or through the dock, the first few minutes they work great but suddenly they begin to be unuseable. I move the mouse and nothing, I type and nothing. They both stop working at the same time. Then they will work for a few seconds and then again nothing. The laptop doesn't make any sounds suggesting they are begin plugged in and unplugged nor does it have any pop ups suggesting it. I have tried reloading the laptop and using a different keyboard and mouse. I've tried all new drivers and Windows updates.

Typing on the laptop's keyboard and using the trackpad works great consistently whether on the dock or not or with the USB keyboard and mouse plugged in or not.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

If the BIOS is not A05 then update it. One of the fixes is vaguely similar to the problem you are seeing.
Also check that all the drivers are up-to-date. Dell does not normally do this while the hardware is in the Outlet store.

I'm using A05. It's not the external monitor that's having the problem. Its the laptop screen that isn't being recognized. And I already checked and I am up to date with everything

I ended up upgrading from A03 (I believe) to A05. Did not apply the patch prior to upgrading to A05. If I try and run the patch now it says that "The system BIOS already contains the A01.1 patch. Patch update cancelled."

I was hoping upgrading to A05 would help but it did not. Also I'm running all the latest drives from what I can tell.

mine did this a while ago: out of sleep mode - the laptop screen went black:

Take the battery out and plug the AC cable and restart and it should work
log in to window and shutdown, put the battery back.

Don't the BIOS docs explain that the patch is not required beyond a certain BIOS level?

If "reloading the laptop" means re-installing the OS, then maybe it's just flakey motherboard hardware, assuming the USB mouse and USB keyboard work fine on your working system.

One thing I would have tried is uninstall all USB controllers in Device Manager and then reboot to rediscover and install them again.

At this point, with my needs it's kind of worthless until I get it working anyways.
