I don't have an E6410. On the E6510 and M4500 the fan does remain on, idling at a much lower rpm. Not sure, this might be a function of power scheme or battery vs AC.

At idle rpm, HWinFO decides to not display fan rpm.

It's taken me some time to track down where HWinfo32 shows the fan data. I've found it on the sensors panel under CPU. i'm surprised that the slow fan speed is as high as 2800rpm - it's very quiet.

It's also interesting to see that there is an indication of CPU power consumption. I wonder how that is done?

Nehalem-based and later CPUs monitor their current consumption via IMON signal from VR and based on actual voltage (VID) report their energy to the PCH. HWiNFO32 is the only tool I know so far that's able to monitor this value and report it. There are some other tools that try to estimate CPU Power consumed, but they don't really measure it (just estimate)..

My M4500 also used to come out of sleep with screen black. What I did then was to use Fn+D shortcut twice.

Dell seem to think that my E6410 has changed itself into an E6510. It's now listing the wrong downloads for my service tag:

PS: And a couple of hours later it has become an E6410 again.

A guess on my part, but Dell might be testing a new service: accurate and consistent customer data reporting.

Initially free. But, a few months after launch it costs $19.99/yr. To be included in the now out-of-control list of "a la carte" fees.

BTW, it says E5510 in your jpg?

Hey everyone, just bought a refurb E6410 from the Dell outlet. It's slated to arrive on monday (9/27). I'm really excited!

    Specs:
    i5-520 @2.4GHz
    4GB Ram
    160GB HDD**
    Nvidia 310 GPU
    Silver
    6-cell***
    ...etc

    All for $518 :)

**Adding OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD
    ***Additional 9-cell ordered as well

Hopefully it doesn't have any scratches, scuffs, ect and works like it should - I've never ordered from dell outlet before. Any feedback about them?

I plan to scan over this thread in the coming days, thanks in advance for all the great info here!

    Hiya,

I was wondering about the 6410 keyboard. Does anyone have issues with their thumb hitting the buttons over the trackpad when typing (the secondary/thumbstick accompaniment buttons), due to the spacebar dropping down flush or below the buttons? I hope I explained that adequately. I realize everyone types a bit differently, but I've had a bad experience with an Inspiron where the spacebar went below the bezel when typing, and I read one review of the e4310 then complained of hitting the trackpad buttons while typing (just one person though). There's nowhere near me I can test one.

Any opinions of the keyboards overall quality are welcome as well. Have a great day.

[to my knowledge] the only way would be to exchange the whole motherboard.
As GPU chips tend to be "glued" to motherboard in most of laptops, and there's also completely different circuit on PCB between Intel GPU motherboards and dedicated GPU motherboards.
