Very good. As I said the above doesn't concern you.

There are/have been two downloads.... the full package (drivers and IRST app) that extracts and installs automatically, and the drivers-only package that just extracts the drivers to a folder, which you then use to pre-OS install the driver or to update the driver via Device Manager.

Note that although Win7 has a default storage driver which must be updated to the Intel driver afterward, you can avoid this update step by pre-OS installing the correct Intel driver in the first place.

If you set the BIOS SATA to AHCI mode and install the full package, you are installing both the driver and the IRST app. You don't need/use the IRST app in AHCI mode, so it's worth not installing, imo... i.e. use the drivers-only package.

Anyone know the part number of the 900p Samsung screen?

I know the LG part number is 6N56F for the 900p screen.

    Has anyone NOT reinstalled?.

In the past i've always formatted and started again leaving off Dells bloatware. I'm wondering if perhaps things have moved on and maybe the factory E6410 is good to go.

Thoughts?. I think i'm getting lazy in my old age!

PS. I might post some pictures later as i have a D630, E6400 and E6410 currently on my desk!

I actually didn't reinstall. I planned to do so initially, but I was surprised how few extra programs were installed and how fast my laptop is. So I decided against the extra effort (or in other words, just as you I'm getting lazy....). So far no regrets!

You probably need to replace the pre-installed AV software with your own preference but, other than that, there's very little bloatware. Check if Dell's DCP security manager and connection manager are installed and, if you don't need the facilityies that they offer, remove them. The factory installation has various benefits includes the requisite drivers to allow you to change the SATA mode in the BIOS without getting a BSOD (I recommend that you change from IRRT to AHCI before you do anything else).

I have 9 E6410 from Dell Outlet and only 2 of them actually came with a LCD cover which had the WWAN wires. I have been fighting back and forth with Dell trying to get them to send me new LCD covers for me to swap out since it is BS due to us equipping all of our laptops with GOBI cards. FYI the BIOS locks out GOBI 5600 cards and Engineering Samples of Intel cards. Found that out last week.

yes i read some people believe irrt = latency issues etc
has dell given a reason why the e6410 comes with irrt by default as on paper there seems no reason for it in the e6410?

    Me.

I chose this laptop because of the seemingly sturdier build. It gets thrown in and out of my suitcase, and the whole airport security thing, on almost a daily basis.

I've had it about 2 months now, and have had no complaints whatsoever with this e6410. I just lurk in here because of all the knowledgeable people that post here. I'm always learning something.
