thanks...I wanted a Sandy Bridge lappy, but there is no way I would get everything I wanted at a price close to what I go this E6410 for...

    I wanted a 14" screen with WXGA+ with an i7 chip...

Right. Just received mine today from the Outlet. I guess I ordered just before a coupon got released, which wouldn't have me so disappointed if there weren't problems already (bad quality control?). The left speaker is crackling/blown, which I've confirmed after a Dell chat rep's advice did nothing as well as by playing with the left/right balance settings. Useless even for speech at low volume, and simply shifting the balance to the right side won't work as a good "live with it" solution.

In addition the left corner of the palm rest is loose, lifting up even with a slight brush of the finger on the side of the case. (This is above a smart card reader.) It also feels like the battery wiggles a bit in its compartment, and the plastic above it (behind the LCD) isn't really rigid or reinforced, but my research indicated that those were expected and perhaps not worrisome--maybe even present on its competitors.

Oddly, the Windows installation lacked most of Dell's utilities, too, but included other bundled software. I can find these things myself on their website, but downloading those is slow and tedious.

I'd heard so many positive experiences with the Outlet and expected a more solid system, having gone to a business-class system from a consumer-grade HP dm4 that had a couple of minor issues itself (but, like this system, otherwise felt decently built). This will probably be more solid and better to use in the long run, but it's still frustrating.

Well you have I believe 21 days to either get a refund or exchange. My Latitude 13 from the Outlet was in pristine condition, but my E6410 had a host of issues, so it went back for a refund.

You should return it and buy another one with the coupon. With the problems you mentioned they should be willing to give you a full refund and pay for return shipping.

If I can get the restocking fee waived and get in on the coupon, I'd prefer that option. The turnaround can't be much worse than the warranty service, and I imagine I can still find a decent WXGA+ config. I did try asking politely and casually for a discount when ordering, as had been suggested some places I read, but I guess I wasn't charming or persistent enough. (Advice on getting the best chance of success this time around?) Else, I guess I'll just have to mail it in to be fixed.

Hello everyone, I am new here. Just bought my e6410 from the outlet and I think I did a pretty good deal, although it has some faults.

    Pros

    i7-640M
    512MB NVIDIA NVS 3100M
    WXGA+ (1440x900) – LG
    128 GB ssd - Samsung
    4 GB DDR3 1333MHz (1 DIMMs)
    Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

    cons

    No Camera
    No backlit keyboard
    8X DVD ROM Drive
    Dell 1520 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless card

    Price - 817$ (after tax)

I don’t really need the camera and the backlit keyboard, but the DVD ROM Drive is weird (didn’t notice it before buying) and the Dell 1520 sounds poor.
So i am considering some upgrades and i have a few questions:

    1. how bad is the Dell 1520 ? does it worth upgrading ?

    2. did anyone tried this card ?
    Amazon.com: Intel Ultimate N 633ANHMW IEEE 802.11n (draft) Wi-Fi Adapter - Mini PCI Express - 450Mbps: Electronics

    3. do you have suggestions for another card ?

    4. can i use an aftermarket dvd rw ? any suggestions ? (i am not going to pay 100$ for the dell dvd rw).

    5. did anyone tried this 2nd hdd caddy ?
    2nd Hard Drive Caddy DELL E6400, E6410, E6500, E6510 Modular Bay [DELL9-2BAY] - $48.95 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks

    6. do you have suggestions for another 2nd hdd caddy ?

i will appreciate your help and any other suggestions would be great.

That is a pretty good deal on the E6410, you aren't going to get all the bells and whistles for that much. The backlit keyboard is like 40-45~

    1) When I had my E6410, the 1520 was an okay card, not spectacular. It is easily upgradable.

    2) That is a good card, just make sure you have a good router

    3) Not really much to offer against that price, you can get a 5100/5300 for like 10-15..

    4) What's wrong with the Dell one?

    5) Can't speak for that one
