This was probably asked before, but can the E6410 accept an mSATA SSD? That might be one of my future upgrades since my current 160GB 5400RPM HDD is rather slow.

I'm having an issue with eSATA. It's may not be e6410 related, so if I don't get my answer here, I will make a new thread.

I have a eSATA external enclosure (wall-powered) that works fine, every time...

I also have a powered USB/eSATA to internal sata & power cable (usb-powered), as well as a Thermaltake eSATA hard drive dock (wall-powered).

The problem is the same on both:

The first drive shows up just fine, easy as a USB drive. If I disconnect it and connect a different drive, Windows sees nothing.

What is the proper way to eject and 'find' eSATA drives?

On my desktop computer, I can connect/disconnect SATA drives without problems...what's going on with my eSATA???

I see similar problems but I don't have the solution. I wonder if the problem related to frequency that something (Intel storage software) checks for changes. For example, doing safe removal of a drive can result in it immediately disappearing from Explorer but several minutes then elapse before a message pops up to tell me that I can remove the device. Only after this happens will the computer recognise a new device.

It's something I've learnt to live with rather than search for a fix.

For some reason my computer never enters hibernation mode, nor does the screen turn off or the screensaver on.

Anyone have any ideas why it would be acting this way?

I also have a problem reported a while back with sleep mode, after resuming it looks like the hard drives stop responding, the mouse still works but I can't log in, the login window doesn't do anything when I press enter. I enabled the Embassy software if that helps. Also at one point I enabled autologin, the system logged in but then stopped responding in the same way.

Further I decided to mod a thinkpad nub to work with the dell, it's so much more responsive!

There may be some clues in the System Log of Event Viewer (under Computer Management).

Hello everyone, I have a few questions :

My e6410 came with 4gb 1333mhz 1 dimm (hynix). My windows experience index for the memory is 5.9. In the notebookcheck review they got 7.2 with 2x2gb (Samsung).
What’s the reason for my poor index ? is it the single channel ? Or is it the memory type / manufacturer ?
What is the best way to improve that ? can I just add 4gb from another manufacturer or should I replace it with 2X4gb from another manufacturer ?
Can you post your memory configuration and your windows experience index ?

One module means that the RAM is single channel. This will pull down performance but, in real world usage, it is barely noticeable. The 7.2 is quite high. I'm getting 6.8 with 2 x 4GB OCZ modules. However, I think the smaller modules have slightly lower latency which WEI may give big weighting to. A better measure of RAM performance may be SiSoftware Sandra's memory bandwidth benchmark.

Adding another 2GB will put the RAM into pseudo-dual channel mode if you don't want to spend the extra on 4GB. As long as the RAM is 204 pin DDR3 SODIMM it will work: The days of needing two matched modules to get dual channel mode are long past.

WEI is designed to give you an idea of the performance of a computer. The probelm with WEI, is that it's kinda stupid sometimes. In the sense that it goes "Oh you have a 5400RPM HDD, so your hard drive performance is 5.2" (example), even though you have somehow some-kind of 5400RPM HDD that is as fast a 10 000RPM HDD.

Your score is most likely dropped because you have 1 RAM module. Another point is timings of the memory. Lower the timing numbers the better.

The E6410 uses 9.5mm thick HDDs. At present the maximum capacity in this form factor is 750GB although 1GB is expected to arrive sometime this year.

Get a displayPort - HDMI cable.
