Exactly; the fact that I can have a 1TB 3.5HDD as storage plugged in to my file server by USB, and plugged in to my M4400 by eSATA makes sense.
Wonder if the eSATA TT dock can be accessed simultaneously by USB + eSATA.

Most new machines like the E series have powered eSATA. The only external product I've found that uses it is this - http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/flash_drives/ocz_throttle_esata_flash_drive

I really want a 2.5" case with the powered eSATA plug on it.

I happen to have ordered a 32GB Throttle yesterday. I hope it will show up within a week.

I'm sure that someone will come up with a powered cable for eSATA enclosures. One option is to split the power and data into two plugs at the enclosure end so it still uses only one port on the computer.

I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work but there may be no way to secure the unit in place.

The specs for the E4300 show that it has a "Fixed Bay" optical device. The E6400/E6500 and Precision models all have "E-Modular" variations available- various CD/DVD-RW drives, 2nd hard drive or leave it empty and they have a Travel Lite Module to cover the empty bay.

If the E4300's optical drives are identical in size and shape to the ones in the E6400, the 2nd hard drive adapter should fit into the open bay just as it does in the E6400. The adapter won't lock into place with a latch, but they fit very well anyway. In my E6400, once I slide the adapter and hard drive in, the connector/plug holds it in place well very!

    Good luck!

I just looked up the compatibility of the firmware update for the TSST TS-U633A 9.5mm Tray SATA DVDRW (one of the E6400 burner options).

    and it lists

This suggests that it is the same basic unit (which I would expect, to simplify the logistics). I provided a link to the E4300 service manual in my previous post.

Hello, can anyone tell me what is the maximum size of HDD that will fit in the Lenovo Ultrabay Slim II HDD Bay (for T400/T500...)

    Thanks much!

Physically, 9.5mm thick 2.5" with SATA interface.

Storage capacity, 500GB is currently the highest available capacity in the 2.5" size.
