I have bought a Lenovo Ultrabay Slim II HDD Bay (for T400/T500...)!
It's Sata II and can hold a single 2,5" HDD. And the best: It fits the Modular Bay of my Latitude E6400!

I have also tested the speed and could achieve full SataII transfer speed (in my case 286 Mbytes/s). So this is also an option for using a SSD in your Laptop.

Here some pics comparing it with the standard Dell DVD Drive and pics of the Bay connected to the E6400:

If you experience any connection problems just check this solution:

An another choice (including latching mechanism) is this:

And if you want to connect your CD/DVD Drive even with the HDD Bay attached you could use this:
ebay eSATA/USB to SATA Cable for SATA optical drive

Taps power off the usb port, with a SATA to E-sata lead to connect the optical drive externally. Includes an e-sata to USB, so can connect the optical drive to a USB port too.

huh. that's real interesting... you'd think different manufacturers would use individual, proprietary designs...

on a side note, just checked my m15x's SmartBay optical drive, and it's got the connector on the other side. shame...

Probably a dumb question, but why is it people aren't buying the Dell modular bay adapter for their Dell machine?

becuase it cannot house a 2.5" Drive. It has a 1.8" drive which is slower.
