Thanks a lot for the information. I don't have a TV or other device with HDMI input yet but it is good to know it will work when I get one later.

Just a quick note: re BSOD's - ran the Intel stress test just fine without errors. So hoping that my system is now stable!

Australian e6400's ship with both the XP Pro CD and the Vista Business installation CD.

Hope it will be stable for you.

If you have had a lot of BSODs on a system because of some hardware problem it could have caused errors in the file system that in turn can cause new problems and BSODs even if the hardware is now fine. If I had had a lot of BSODs on a system I would have reinstalled the operating system from scratch.

BSOD's in XP could be lead to a diver crash too.
Vista simply restarts the drivers instantly, even if it's the video card drivers (all you'll get a screen flicker of 1 or 2 seconds for the case of the video card drivers).

Trouble with this seems to be if a driver is only half dead, and not completely correct, you can end up with two instances of the driver running at once, in contention with each other - or possibly a continuous stream of short lived drivers killing each other and restarting. I suspect both ControlPoint and the IDT driver of being involved in something like this on my machine.

Windows Update is offering Vista Biz64 an optional Creative Streaming Media and Broadcast (driver?) for the integrated webcam (released in September). Could be more current than my installed 8/25/08 1.3.1.825. Has anyone tried it? Dell is offering a 11/11/08 1.03.2.919... maybe I should jump to that instead?

    Hi,
I'm trying to do a clean XP install on my E6400, but I can't seem to download the drivers from dell.com. Could someone point me to where to download the drivers?

    Thanks.

Go to the Dell support site and put in your service tag number. The system should offer all the downloads you need.

The creative webcam driver on WU is the same as the one Dell is offering and was released earlier too. It works fine and hasn't caused me any problems, so I recommend it.
